Question about Panasonic Rx-5090 Vintage Ghetto Blaster

1 Answer

What's the most common reason for an inoperative radio ???

My RX 5090 is great condition inside and out. Everything works fine except the radio. There is no AM/FM output to the speakers, Internally, I cleaned the switches and the tuner pot with silicone spray, but this had no effect. I could find no broken wires or signs that any liquid had leaked inside. Personally, I suspect the AM/FM switch but am not sure. HELP APPRECIATED !

SOURCE: Panasonic RX DT 707/ How do I remove the speaker

Hi there, the grills are incorporated into the cassing ,so you will have to dismantle the unit, which is actually very easy, all you need to do is remove the 8 screws from the back of the unit, then lie it on it's back, and gently but firmley(can take a bit of force) prise the unit in half ,as all thats keeping it together at this stage is the speaker connector plug, located on the inside, right by the earphones socket.Once the unit is appart ,carfully unplug and remove the 4 speakers,I found the best way to clean inside the grills,is to shower them and you can also use a soft nail brush and soap,to get the grime out of the grills.Make sure it's all dry before putting it back together.
Hope this helps

Hello! I can not see any reason the AC would quit working after a battery disconnect...Lets start by checking fuses: 7 (16A) and D (16A)...Also, The refrigerant high pressure switch (left front of engine compartment) may be open...Check the Brown/White wire in its plug for a ground when AC is on...

Stereo will not work cold weather until car is warmed up

Is the entire radio inoperative or is it just the display. It's common for the display to freeze up in really cold weather because it's a liquid crystal display unit, but the radio should still produce sound and the buttons should work. If not, check wiring and ground points to make sure they're in good condition. Also while rare, it's possible that a loose connector can lose it's connection when very cold because the metal pins inside with shrink just a little, but if they were just barely touching while warm, the connection will break when cold.. I hope this helps and good luck!
