Brake lights don't work, turn signals do. is there a fuse in the fuse box for them?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. There is a fuse for them in the box. May be named tail lamp or back lamp. If the fuse and bulbs are good, it is probably your brake switch. It is located right above the brake pedal. It controls the brake lights coming on. It will need changed if the fuse and bulbs are good. Thanks for using FixYa.

My inspection garage told me my 3rd rear lights were not working (back up lights). When we pulled the one bulb, it appeared to be perfect and the filament was unbroken. Are the two lights in series,...

if one brake light is off, the other one should be on and you got to check the bulb even if it looks good. if the both brake light bulbs are good and not working then you can go and check the fuse box and check for brake light fuse. if its OK then check the brake switch that usually located on the transmission. Good luck

If the two rear brake light are working on each side, then fuse and relay are good, check the bulb.

2000 honda civic Brake lights do not work

Did U use the bulb contact/grease **** that autozone & advanced auto always try to sell ya? If so, any more than a VERY VERY light smear, will keep thre from being contact between the socket and bulb. OR >> sometimes the 'wrong bulb' can do that and even convince you that your cars computer is haunted or something. OR >> . I'm sure yo checked your fuses? Both fuse boxes, (or some vehicals have even more, BUT...???) While your with the fuses, use a multi meter to check them. Sometimes they look good and then actually they arent. OR >>>> I've have one of the million metal plates, laid one on top of the other to make thew circuits within the fuse box. Don't let anyone solder a fuse in there. Its easy enough to staighten them out again. Just be careful not to drop them, or mix them up.
Good luck - Jeanebop

I just bought NEW bulb for brake light

There aren't separate fuses for the left and right brake lights. So if one side is working and the other isn't you can rule out a fuse. Was the bulb socket corroded at all? Check for power and grounds at the socket by back probing the wires (of course, while having the brakes applied). If you have a good power and ground at the wires, the problem lies in the socket assembly. Should be available from the dealer for about $30 or so. It's also not out of the question to have a bad bulb out of the box. It's rare but just to rule it out, try it in the socket that works.

Good luck.

BRAKE AND TAIL LIGHTS DON'T WORK. HAVE REPLACED BRAKE SWITCH AND LIGHT SWITCH. NO CHANGE. LIGHTS ARE GOOD, CAN HOT WIRE AND RUNNING LIGHTS WORK. ALSO WHEN HOT WIRED DASH LIGHTS COME ON

Hi.

Test with a voltmeter the contacts to the fuses for tail lights and brake lights. If there is no power getting to fuses from instrument panel, and switches had already been replaced, then it is a wiring problem from switch to fuse box, otherwise from fuse box to lights. the defective wiring must be repaired or rebuilt.
Regards.

Need to know which fuse is my brake lights on my vw golf and if the fuse is good and I replaced the brake light, why is my right brake light not working

Fuses are marked on the fuse box cover. Just follow the numbers.

If the brake lamp is not working, it can be
a) broken (try with another bulb)
b) loose (put the bulb properly in)

2005 chevy 2500 brake lights wont work

Just to be sure you checked fuses underhood? There is a junction block at rear of truck on frame it can cause lights to not work check it to make sure all conections are tight.also check the trailer hook up for brake light power as this is on a seperate cicuit but is supplied by brake switch. If you have power there it will eliminate switch.your fuse box has a brake fuse and trailer brake fuse
