Drive Belt

If the dryer makes noise, the belt may be frayed or damaged. If the belt is damaged, it will make noise every time it travels around the pulleys. The drive belt is a long, narrow band that wraps around the entire drum, then around a tension pulley and the motor pulley.

Drum Roller

It is very common for dryer drum rollers to wear out. If the dryer makes noise, particularly a loud rumbling noise, one or more of the rollers may be worn out. After removing the drum from the dryer, inspect the rollers. If one is worn out replace all of them at the same time as a preventative measure.

Drum Roller Axle

Over time the drum roller axles can wear out, causing the rollers to wobble. If this happens the dryer makes noise. If the dryer is making a rumbling noise, check the rollers and axles. If any are worn out, replace them all at the same time.

Blower Wheel

Clumps of lint, socks, and other small articles of clothing can get past the lint filter and into the blower wheel. If the dryer makes noise, and the noise seems to be at a very fast pace, there might be something caught in the blower wheel. In addition, the blower wheel sleeve might be worn out, allowing the blower wheel to wobble on the motor shaft. If this happens, replace the blower wheel.

Drum Bearing

The drum bearing supports the rear of the dryer drum. If the dryer makes noise this bearing might be worn out. Replace the bearing if it is worn out. Do not lubricate the bearing, the lubrication will attract lint and dirt and accelerate the wearing process.

Drum Support Roller & Axle

It is very common for dryer drum rollers to wear out. If the dryer makes noise, particularly a loud rumbling noise, one or more of the rollers or axles may be worn out. After removing the drum from the dryer, inspect the rollers and axles. If one is worn out replace all of them at the same time as a preventative measure.

Drum Support Bearing

The drum support bearing is at the rear of the drum. If the dryer makes noise check this bearing. If it is worn out, replace the entire bearing.

Drum Slide, Glide, or Pad

The drum slides or glides support the front of the drum. As the drum rotates over the years, the glides wear out and then the dryer makes noise. Replace all of the glides as a set if they are worn out.

Drive Motor

Although not very common, if the dryer makes noise the drive motor may be worn out and the motor bearings can become noisy. If this happens the drive motor must be replaced. The bearings are permanently sealed and cannot be lubricated.

SOURCE: high pitch squeak

This is typical when the drive belt becomes worn and slips more than it grabs. This causes the squeaking noise you are describing. Below is a short but helpful video which shows the location andl how to replace the belt on a Roper dryer. Best of luck!

Could be the bearings going, other possibilities could be that the drum is slightly misaligned and scraping against the housing, although that's not very likely, or a bad belt.

Although sometimes it's some obscure thing, I could be compleatly wrong.

Some times screws can work their way out near the drum and rub against the drum causing the squeak. You might have to take off the back of the washer and see if there is anything loose contacting the drum.

Hello, as far as your unit makeing a high pitched squeaking noise you would have to remove the top panel of the machine by unscrewing the 2-3 screws along the back upper part of the machine. You would then slide the panel towards the rear of the machine and then remove the panel from the machine. After you did this you would then run the machine and try to distinguish if the noise was being made from the main bearing in the unit which holds the inner and outter tub together. Or if the noise were coming from the motor in the unit. Most of the time when someone does describe a high pitched noise that is described like a jet taking off when the unit goes into the spin cycle this would tend to point towards a main bearing issue with the unit. To replace a main bearing in a washer is a very costly and long proces if done by a technician and most do decide not to fix the unit due to this. On the other hand if it were a motor noise that you were hearing or a pulley noise which on some is located on the back of the tub these are much less costly repairs as well as less time consuming. If you have any other questions message me back. I await your reply
Thank you,
Rick

High pitch squeak with every turn of the drum

Hello. The dryer has a belt running around the entire tub and that belt also goes over an idler pulley which keeps the tension correct. When you get that high pitched squeak the fix is to replace both the belt and the pulley. If you go to searspartsdirect.com and enter your dryer model number you will get the schematics for your dryer which will show you exactly where these parts are. You can also order new parts from that site if you choose. Regards, Joe

Dryer makes a high pitch squeaking noise

This could be a dry support bearing, a dried out drum seal or something stuck in the drum seal. If I could hear it I would know better where to start. Listen and try to locate the source from the above list. It could be the belt but that is not as common.

Kenmore front loading HE3 makes knocking sounds during spin cycle

Ours started knocking several months ago and then progressed to a high pitched sound when in the spin cycle. I manually turned the drum and heard and felt a bearing roughness. I lifted the drum assembly and felt a fair amount of play, which I think the initial knocking noise came from. On the sears web site a new rear drum mount cost 293.00. Today we went and bought a LG model wm2455hw at Home depot, on sale until 2/20/08. I couldn't see paying to repair a machine that only lasted four years.

The drum should be on center. It sound like a damper pads issue. The damper pads are located beneath main support housing on base's machine. Check that they are on place and not broken. Good luck !
