White "lines" on copies and prints ? - side to side every 1.5 inches ( approx) is blank ( no toner) creating "lines".

Purchased this printer from craigslist n was told it worked fine, however each print and or copy is missing toner every few inches, which creates a white line pattern and obviously missing information. The printer may have been stored for some time, I do not know. Seller claims it saw "little use". I am reluctant to purchase new toner or a new drum without knowing which is defective --- any help ? Does something perhaps need cleaned ?

The drum is light sensitive and if one side was exposed to sunlight for as little as 20 seconds could have that effect , it is at best a shot in the dark (no pun intended)

SOURCE: Faint red line across page when making color copies or printing in color from computer

Some possibilities are:

1) Dirt on the glass, dirt on the glass strip for the doc feeder, or dust on the mirrors. This would be the case if the line only showed when copying and not printing.

2) Toner dropped onto the charge sawtooth.
This may be possible if the line is intermittent and only showed up for 1 or 2 colors.
Open the front door and remove the waste toner box. To the left of each drum there is a green organ-stop type stem. Pull and reinsert each stem. You will hear a zipping noise. These are your charge scrubbers.
This may be not as likely if the line shows up in the same place on all 4 colors

3) Toner or dust on the lens
This may be possible if the line is intermittent and only showed up for 1 or 2 colors.
In the area where the waste toner box goes, look for a grey stick with a white cushion on the end. This is your lens scrubber. Look in the area under the charge scrubber on each drum cartridge for a gap. Insert the scrubber cushion side down into the gap and run it forward and back to clean the lens.
This may be not as likely if the line shows up in the same place on all 4 colors

4) Transfer belt blade not cleaning
This is best handled by a service tech since the mylar belt is very fragile. The squeegee blade that cleans the transfer belt between copies is missing a spot. The blade needs to be taken off the belt, cleaned and repowdered. Recently, Sharp made changes to the composition and thickness of the mylar in the transfer belts. Overpowdering the blade or belt when it was changed may cause improper cleaning of the belt creating lines across the copies. Often the condition clears up after a couple of days as the gap between the blade and belt is sealed.
This is most likely the cause as the line shows up in the same area for more than 1 color.

5) Transfer belt and/or blade is worn out
If the belt is worn the blade must be replaced but not vice versa.

6) Clogged waste augers in the drum cartridges.
Waste toner may cake up in the drum cartridge and knock loose on the drum.

It may be time for full maintenance on the machine.

My copies have a thin blank streak about 1 inch in on the left side. the streak is about 1/4 inch wide and goes down the whole sheet of paper

Start a print or copy, and just as the trailing edge of paper is entering the machine; quickly open it to stop print and take out the cartridge and look at the drum and the paper underneath. If the issue is there at that point then it would point to the cartridge. If not then it is in the fuser area.

Clean the loose toner up with a dry lint free cloth.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Means toner cartridge is nearly to end. Just shake a little bit to distribute evenly the toner powder and be ready to purchase new toner cartridge. And is it nothing to do with the drum. Drum problem will create black shadow lines when printing.

How do I remove white streak from copy when i use my 3015?

Most common cause of this issue is low toner. Best solution is to remove the toner cartridge and while keeping it mostly level, shake it from side to side to level out the toner. Then re-install and test. If this fixes your issue then just be aware that the toner cartridge is starting to get low on toner.
Now if the white streak is very fine and the above procedure does not work then it is most likely something stuck to the scanner glass. To test for this print out a report from the operation panel or if you have the machine connected to a PC print something from there. Are your print outs ok? If so it means that it is definately something on the scanner glass. To locate it and clean it just make a copy of something. Now take that copy with the blank line on it and place it in the feeder just as you did with the original. now wherever the blank streak is lined up on the machine is where the spot is going to be on the scanner glass. Just open the cover where the documents go in and look for the strip of glass that runs from side to side. Your copy passes over this glass when it is scanned. Where the blank line hits this glass is where the trouble spot is. Just clean the glass with a cloth that has some glass cleaner sprayed on it. This should resolve the problem.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

When printing, the toner does not completely get distributed. Consequently we are left with a "white" line through the print on the right-hand side. The white begins about 7/8ths inches in from edge and...

It can either be the toner cartridge itself, or the fuser.

Try a full cleaning, and if that does not help at all, you will have to replace the toner or fuser or both.

The white line or lines are NOT caused by the fuser. A defect "line" in the fuser would cause the symtom of the print rubbing off the page but not blank lines on your copy. First we need to separate your copy quality issues. This machine uses 4 drums, 4 developer units and a transfer belt. Most copy quality issues will reside in 1 or more of these units. Lets start with a few questions. 1)Are your copy quality issues ONLY on color copies? or are the black and whites poor too? 2) Are you running copies only thru the document feeder or have you made any copies from the glass?
Are you printing on the copier from your computer?

Blank white 'line' on printed output

Installed new toner. Printer prints well, except approx 1 inch of vertical line doesn't print about 1/2 inch from right margin. Have gently shaken cartridge, run a cleaning paper, reiserted cartridge.

Assuming none of your print area margin settings have been changed, it sounds like you may have a defective drum. You can try carefully cleaning the corona wire, a hair thin wire, with a dry cotton swab. Do not touch the drum! The drum is an integral part of the toner cartridge. Return it to the store as defective.

Print quality bad

To clear white vertical lines from printed documents follow the steps listed below:

NOTE: The use of non-Brother or generic toner may cause white vertical lines.

Brother strongly recommends that customers do not use generic drum units and/or toner cartridges, or refill their Brother toner cartridge. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability.
The Brotherlimited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the useof unauthorized third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

1. First, power OFF the unit for safety. The ON/OFF switch is located on the left, rear side of the unit.

2. Open the scanner cover by pulling the blue lever located below the control panel toward you and lifting the cover. Make sure the cover is completely open.

3. Remove the drum unit by holding each side of the drum by its handles and gently lifting the drum forward (toward) you.

4. Place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposablepaper to avoid spilling and scattering the toner. Make sure thedirections and DR-250 stickers are facing you.

5. With the drum removed from the Brother machine, clean the laser glass. The laser glass is located inside the Brother machine where the drum was located. It is a piece of glass, about 1/2 inch wide and approximately 8 inches long, located on the bottom of the inside. Gently wipe the glass with a clean soft DRY cloth. DO NOT use isopropyl alcoholor any liquid to clean the glass.

6. Gently pull up on the mauve lever to turn the toner cartridge toward you until it stops. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit by gently sliding it out of the drum unit. ***Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wipe it off or wash it with cold water.

7. Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge. Then, reset the toner into the drum (be sure it clicks into place). Gently push on the mauve lever to turn the toner cartridge away from you until it stops.

8. With the DR-250 sticker facing you turn the drum upside down. There is a blue tab located on the right side. Slide the blue tab back and forth seven times to clean the corona wire. When finished, make sure the blue tab is locked to the right side of the drum.

9. Reset drum unit in Brother machine. Close the cover securely.

Print the help list to test the unit by pressing the REPORTS key located on the control panel and then (1) on the dial pad.

If the white vertical lines still continue, the drum unit will need to
be replaced.

If the purchase date of the original drum or replacement drum is less than 90 days (within the warranty of the drum), contact Brother Customer Service Center at 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) . The center is open Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 7:00 pm EST, excluding holidays.
