Non system disk When a computer boots, the bios will look for any media so that the computer can boot. The default setting is that Floppy>CD rom > Hard disk. But we can change this boot order in the bios. So, when the computer boots it will first look for system files in the floppy, if it doesnt find any system file it will show the above error message "non system disk, replace the disk and press any key". So, please check whether u have inserted any floppy in the drive. If there is no floppy it will go in search for a CD, if there is no CD it will go in search for a Hard disk. If the hard disk's first sector is damaged(bad sector) the same error will be shown Solution- Replace with a new HDD and you have to install a fresh copy of windows. If the system file has been corrputed the same error message will be shown. Solution- Reinstall windows. Solution provided by ShaC

the ntldr.sys file is used to boot your winxp, this should have got corrupted, or your boot sector in the harddisk should have got corrupted.
what file system was used on your harddisk ( Fat32 or NTFS)
if it is Fat32 then you can try this. boot your system with win98 boot cd or floppy. after booting insert your windows xp cd in the cd drive copy the file ntldr.sys from the i386 folder to the os root dir(usually the c:) you will receive a overwrite message. do the over writing. thats all.
now restart your system normally (harddisk). it should be fine.
if the file system is NTFS, i am sorry to say, if you dont know the admin pass, you will have to repair the installation with the winxp cd,
for this boot your system with the winxp cd, on the first screen, press enter( for a fresh installation), then press F8, now you will be notified that there is already a window installation, on this screen press 'R' to repair the installation. follow the online screen.
Actually this is a nothing but just a reinstall of the OS. you may have to reinstall most of the os updates. and a few softwares also.
Hope this helps you.

SOURCE: I have a s3100n hp slim line pavillion and thru hp tech support was advised to do a system recovery. when i tryed to reboot my system some programs were missing and they hp said that i need the recov
you must go to bios and change boot sequence from harddrive first to cd first. When you start your pc it always go to harddrive and freezes up. when you change boot sequence it will only go to cds first then follow directions.

Tips for a great answer:
Dec 21, 2012 | HP Pavilion dv7-1132nr Notebook PC
on May 03, 2010 | Computers & Internet
Applies to: Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XPSymptoms
When you start your computer, you receive the error message "NTLDR is missing. Press any key to restart."Cause
The error message "NTLDR is missing" means that the Windows boot loader (NT Loader, NTLDR) cannot be found. This oftenoccurs when the computer tries to boot from a drive other than the one Windows is installed on, due to a change in the driveconfiguration or because you left a bootable disk in a removable drive. But it may also be because the NTLDR file has beencorrupted or deleted.SolutionCheck the boot drives
First, check the boot drives to make sure that the computer is not trying to boot from a different drive to the one thatcontains Windows.
If this does not resolve the problem, you will have to repair the NT boot loader.Fix NTLDR
The easiest way to fix the "NTLDR is missing" error is to use Spotmau PowerSuite. However, if your computer is using Windows XP and you have a Windows XP installation CD you may be able to boot from this anduse the Recovery Console to fix NTLDR manually instead.Use Spotmau PowerSuiteInsert the Spotmau PowerSuite CD and start the computer. The main menu will appear.
The tool will repair the file and report "NTLDR and NTDETECT have been recovered successfully."
