SOURCE: How to replace the hammer and striker

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I've looked at about every DV 20 version parts list and cannot find a part 16 that would create any difficulty in removing. All are either gears, pins, or the plate that goes under the switch. from the way you are describing it it sounds like the only possibility would be the Model DV 20VB which has a spindle which has to be unscrewed from the drill chuck it is held in by a retaining clip that you would need retaining ring pliers to remove.

Maybe the (spindle) sleeve is worn has no driving conduction anymore but maybe only the locking ball for the sds or thats allready lost too.
compare it to a new spindle to see whats missing in most cases its not worth to do repairs

Snapped sds plus drill bit off in chuck. how do i take it apart to get it out i have taken chuck covers off but cant get hold of broken bit with long nose pliers

dont know the exact model you have but if there is a retaining ring on the spindle I would remove it and the corresponding parts and then you can put a small screwdriver in the slot on the side to start moving the bit. If you need more help give me the model number and I will see what I can do

Will this drive half inch rebar through 12 or more inches of landscape timber in a retaining wall?

Yes, but I usually drill a hole just a bit smaller then the rod so that the rod does not split the landscape timbers....
You can buy ship auger bits up to 12" long and they drill through the landscape timber fairly well...

I have a Makita HR2450 hammer drill with an SDS chuck. It no longer holds the bits tightly and I can now push them in and pull them out without needing to use the release mechanism. How do I remove the...

go to Makitatools.com and type in your model number for a breakdown. What I would do is first remove the dust shield and under that you will find a retaining ring, remove it without spreading it too much, then remove the collar and under that you will find a washer and another retaining washer, push down and remove the steel ball. clean the area, it could be full of dirt and not locking properly. Let me know if you need more assistance

Bit will not come out of the end of the hammer drill.

If the chuck will loosen and the bit still won't come out try tapping firmly on the tip of the bit with a scrap of wood while the chuck is loose. There are a couple ball bearings in the chuck that stick sometimes.

Push or pull the business end toward the body while gently pressing and rotating the bit into it. The chuck will snap back up to retain the bit when you have it lined up right.

Broken shaft 3/8 milwaukee hammer drill mod #5392-1

Yes it does. The collar mechanism and retaining ring come off and under all that is a sleeve with steel ball bearings, what I am saying is it would be better to take to a repair shop. I worked on this tool for years and they are decent to use, but repairing that without proper equiptment is not fun. Let me know your area and I will try and find a repair center for you.
