Help ! I cannot afford to take my dogs to the groomers.
I had a dog with hair. I couldn't afford to take her to the groomers, so I bought an Oster Animal Hair clippers and just buzzed off the hair myself. They have little attachments to go on so they don't cut so short. If you mess up, the hair grows out. My kids used to laugh at some of the hair cuts. I had to train Buttons to hold her head very still when I cut around her eyes. That part scared me, but she did hold still. Some times I had to let her run around awhile and come back to the hair cut in 10 minutes. I also had to train her to lay on her back for the tummy & chest trim. She never did like the toenail trim though. I had to sit on her to get it done. Luckily she was only 13 lbs. I did her hair twice a year and sometimes 3 times. I used the scissors on her feet too. Check at Fleet Farm, Target, or Sally's Beauty Supply for cutting tools.
The first thing you need
to do is to talk with the groomer before you bring in your pet for a haircut.
You should let him know exactly how aggressive and how to handle your dog when
he's being aggressive. There are many groomers that won't deal with aggressive
pets.
Most of the respectable places have a two way mirror so you can
watch the barber groom your pet. The main reason most groomers do not want you
to stay is because the dogs get too excited when he see you and therefore it is
nearly impossible to cut his hair when he is not relaxed.
When your dog gets a haircut he actually gets two haircuts,
minimum of two baths, his toenails cut, and his ears cleaned and plucked. It is
a much more difficult job than a normal person haircut it takes much more time.
An average small dog haircut takes around an hour and a half
approximately. Larger dogs will take a bit longer if you want to ensure a
proper haircut.
Selecting a groomer for your pet should take a lot of
consideration and inquiry. Here is a
list of potential questions that I think are very important to ask a future prospective
groomer for your pet:
