Question about Dryers

Open Question

Manually turned drum and heard pop. Now dryer will not turn on at all. Breaker did not trip. I assume if the belt was broken the dryer would at least turn on.

You may be able to check the belt by turning the machine over onto its side so you have access from underneath, if this does not work you will have to remove the back panel of the machine. This is usually done by removing a number of screws which fix the back to the frame of the drier then when have removed the back you should be able to access the belt. remember to disconnect the drier from the electricity supply before you start to do either of these.

SOURCE: Kenmore Dryer: Drum will rotate, but only manually

Your dryer has a belt tension pulley. Take the bottom of the back off and you will see it.

SOURCE: drum will not turn

YOUR BELT ON YOUR DRYER IS BROKEN. THAT IS WHY YOUR DRUM WON'T SPIN. YOU CAN BUY A NEW BELT FOR YOUR DRYER AT ANY PLACE THAT SELLS APPLIANCES.

SOURCE: maytag dryer won't turn on

Hi, The first thing to check is the thermal safety located in the back. UNPLUG the dryer. emove the rear panel and locate the fuse on the blower housing middle left. It is white and in 1/4" wide and 3" long with twowire going to it. You can test continuity to it. If it has continuity, it is ok. This is
the most common problem. If II can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks
Vic

My drum stopped turning. Heating element is fine. Timer is fine. Push start button is fine. I can spin the drum freely and manually. Possibly heard a large pop. Any suggestions?

If you heard a loud pop, then I would definitely say that you have a broken belt. As far as the blower not working as well, if you are having drying times that are taking longer, then you should check your vent line for blockages or build up of lint. Hope this helps!

-You heard the motor turn but the drum no turn>>> Broken belt or slip off.

My white knight tumble dryer wont start

Nothing works or drum fails to turn (tumble dryers)
Ensure that the power supply to the dryer is switched on, the timer is set to the desired drying time and the door is correctly closed. If you have a condenser model, also check that the bottle is empty and is fully pushed into the machine.

The first thing to establish when troubleshooting the clothes dryer is whether the dryer will start or not. If it won't, start by checking the outlet and the circuit breaker. Is the dryer plugged in or has it tripped the circuit breaker? If the breaker has been tripped, flip it back on and try the dryer again. The drum should turn without a problem.
If both plug and breaker are fine, you'll need to inspect the door switch as you continue to troubleshoot the tumble dryer. When you close the door on the dryer, a plastic peg should click and operate the switch which allows the dryer to work. The peg might be bent or broken, in which case it won't connect with the switch. You can try to straighten the peg, but if it's broken, you'll need to replace it. If the peg is fine, the switch has probably failed and will need to be replaced.

Kenmore dryer model 110.63112100 drum does not turn

Check both of your circuit breakers if the dryer is electric. Though the heating elements are 240v, the motor and electrics are 120v and connect to only 1 side of the plug. The breaker for that side may have tripped.

When you press the start button on the dryer, are you able to hear a motor turning (humming) faintly? If you can, and the drum doesn't turn, this is an indication that the belt has broken, jumped off its track, or the tensioner / idler pulley is either broke or skipped over the belt.

Dryer drum will not spin. motor hums when button

either the belt is broken that turns the motor or thr idler tension pulley is bad, if it were a motor problem the breaker most likely will trip

Dryer started up as normal, but, midway through cycle, it stopped running. Timer was still going, but dryer is not spinning.

Can you hear the motor turning? If yes, it probably has a broken belt that drives the drum. If no, check the house electrical power panel to reset the dryer breaker(maybe, only one of the breaker pair tripped). If breaker trips again, you have an electrical short in the dryer cabinet somewhere, usually in the heating element in back of the drum. Good luck!
