Question about Washing Machines
A terrible banging noise has recently developed on spinning. Is this the bearings? What can I do to fix it or do I have to get Hotpoint out? I heard this is a very common problem? Thanks

AS A TECHNICIAN, MOST OF THAT KIND OF TROUBLE I ALWAYS SEEN THE TIMER CONTROLLER IS ALWAYS DEFFECTIVE. YOU NEED A TECHNICIAN TO LET IT SEE AND REPLACE THE NEW ONE. IF YOU DON'T, IT MIGHT BE THE START OF FIRE.KIM

Several possible reasons for this. M/C not level, causing it to move about.
Overloading of m/c.
Loose concrete balance weight, there is one at top and one at bottom.
Suspension spring broken or unhooked.
Suspension leg loose or broken.
Main drum bearings worn, to check this, turn drum by hand and if it feels noisy or rough , then bearings have gone (expensive repair).
There are other possible causes, but these are the main reasons.
Plz rate my solution.

It is the main drum bearings that is causing the noise.
There is no provision made for lubrication.
It can be done as a DIY fix, but it is a very involved repair, as it means having to remove the whole inner workings of the washer,
Not a task I would recommend unless you know what you are doing, and feel competent to tackle it.

Testimonial: "Great help. Thanks. I think I'll buy a pair of ear muffs"
It could be a broken drum restraint spring, or a worn or broken. or loose shock absorber.
To check the springs, remove the top cover, and you will see the springs.
Another possibility is the concrete weight could be broken or loose.
You need to remove the lower rear panel of washer to check the shockers and concrete weight.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your help. In the end it was the front balance weight that had been gradually coming looser and looser and needed fixing pack into place."
