Question about Moticam Camera For Microscopes - 2000 Camera, Model Sp10-0382,

Open Question

Moticam 2000 doesn't respond on computer

I am using a moticam 2000 with the Motic images Plus software on an Apple MacBook Air with the Mountain Lion operating system. I open the Motic images Plus software first before plugging in the USB for the camera because otherwise the screen is black. So after I do this the camera will take one picture when everything is just started so I can see something, but it's not responsive afterwards. If I move the slide or try to focus, the image on the screen doesn't change.

Apple macbook air 2012

Unless you upgraded OS X last summer, you have either Lion Or Mountain Lion, so, you can reset the password without any external disk.

On Lion or Mountain Lion, you use the following technique to reset the Administrators password:

Boot to your Recovery Partition, by holding down the Option key while starting, and then selecting the Recovery HD as the boot choice.

Once booted, at the top of the screen is a menu
>> select Utilities / Terminal from the menu bar.

In the Terminal window, type "resetpassword" (without the quotes) and press return.

A "Reset Password" window will open. Select your boot volume (your SSD drive) (it should already be selected.)

Select your administrators username from the menu labeled "Select the user account" if it is not already selected. Follow the prompts to reset the password.

Restart the computer from the apple menu. (top left corner)
If you are using the Keychain, you will lose your existing one, and have to start a new one, unless you remember the old password.

Your Macbook Air should start up without a password now.

If, in the remote chance this does not work, you get a free year of support on your Macbook Air (3 if you purchased AppleCare). If you have never called AppleCare before, and you are not sure when you bought your Mac, just give them a date that is less than 1 year ago, like October 20, 2013; and then they will step you through support over the phone.
Here's a good page to get numbers and more support, though what I told you should work.
https://www.apple.com/support/macbookair/contact/

All the best to you,
Kerry Hostetter

How do I reduce Macbook Pro extensive battery loss after installing Mountain Lion?

How long does it take to lose 1/3 of its battery? What stuff are you doing? Internet browsing? Watching videos? ... And are you using a recent Macbook Pro, or is it an old model? Kinda hard to answer without any of this info.

Old Macbooks have crappy batteries that only last a couple of years. If you're not doing anything crazy and it still depletes quickly, you should consider buying a replacement battery.

Can't open Excel files after installing OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on my Mac. HELP PLEASE!

Try repairing disk permissions by running the Disk Utility application until you get no errors (then restarting).
Hope by doing that you get the solution.

Apple OS X Mountain Lion and Facebook help please

Unfortunately Apple does not have Facebook integration for Mountain Lion yet. It is expected to be released in the fall or so.

You are able to integrate with Twitter however, if you use that social media site.

What is the process to display my computer screen running Apple's Mountain Lion on my big screen TV?

This is something called Air Play. To set this up you need to follow these steps:
  • Already have or buy an Apple TV version 2 or later.
  • Have an iMac from mid 2011 or later, a Mac mini for mid 2011 or later, a Macbook Air from mid 2011 or later, or a Macbook Pro from early 2011 or later.
  • Have a Wi-Fi or ethernet internet connection.

Now you have to go through the set up to get the devices to "talk" to each other. You do that by using these steps:
  • Turn on your Apple TV and your computer
  • Go to System Preferences and click on "Airplay Mirroring"

After this you can play around and see which resolution size you want your TV to have compared to your computer. It completely depends on your TV and computer, but I usually set it up to match up with my Apple TV since I watch stuff from my computer on my television (it sounds like you will do this too).

What are the common problems with Apple OSX Mountain Lion?

Hello Patrick,

The most common problems I've experienced with Mountain Lion are the following:
  • Reduced battery life. I've noticed about an hour to an hour and a half cut off from my battery life of my Macbook Pro. I'm not sure if this applies to you since you have a Macbook Air, but my recommendation is to try a reinstall if you experience battery problems and turn off some of the extra features like Twitter integration and iCloud when you're not using them.
  • Safari is crashing. Safari is a browser that used to have little respect but now has actually gotten pretty decent. However, with Mountain Lion it actually crashes a lot more than usual. I don't have a fix for it offhand, but I would recommend just using Chrome (which I use anyways) or Firefox. And stay away from Explorer!
  • Free upgrades to Mountain Lion. When I got my free upgrade to Mountain Lion (if you purchased a Mac after June 11, 2012 you can get one too) it took Apple about 5 days to upgrade me to Mountain Lion. This is a super low priority problem, but it's still something I hope they're working on.
  • Notes synchronization. I have answered this on FixYa already, you can find it on the site.

Best of luck.

How much does Mountain Lion cost to download?

You can download Mountain Lion by going to the Apple Store. It costs $20 to get.

However, if you purchased your new computer after June 11, 2012 (which your question seems to indicate you did) then it will not cost you anything and will be completely free.

Go to this webpage and enter in your details to get your free copy.

What are the requirements to download Apple Mountain Lion OSX?

You must have the following computer to download Mountain Lion:

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)

Once that is done, you must be updated to the most recent version of either Snow Leopard or Lion. If you don't have either of these operating systems (which is highly unlikely considering the other computers should have them, but I digress) then you will need to get them before Mountain Lion.

After that, go to the Apple Store and download Mountain Lion!
