How do i bypass a power steering pump in a 2001 mazda protege without using a smaller belt

You can't. And I wouldn't do it for several reasons. First of all, it will be really difficult to turn the wheel at slower speeds and the reaction time of turning the wheels will be increased tremendously, thus increasing your chances of getting into an accident. Having no power steering assist on a car originally designed with power steering IS NOT the same as a car with manual steering. Second: many power steering racks require some form of recirculating fluid to keep the seals and the rack lubricated. So without the pump, eventually you might seize up the rack or blow a seal and that's a nice expensive repair.

When replacing the alternator belt on a 1999 mazda protege how many pullys does it go around. cause i dont know if this belt is to long

There are 2 belts. One goes around the Crankshaft. the Power Steering Pump and the Air Conditioner Compressor (if equipped) and the other belt goes around the Crankshaft, The Alternator and the Water Pump. You can have your local parts supplier verify that you have the correct belt for the vehicle by calling them and giving them the number on the belt. Also make sure that you are installing the belt in the correct position. i.e. putting the alternator belt on the alternator and not on the power steering, etc.

Which bolts on the altenator and power steering pump need to be loosened to release the belts on a 2003 Mazda Protege?

I don`t know that there is a bolt to loosen the belt tension. There should be a automatic tensioner that you pull back and hold to remove the belt.

My 2000 Mazda Protege DX has a tight steering. Can

Try turning the wheel when standing still with the engine running.
If it is tight check the obviouse, has the power steering belt come off. If not check if there is fluid in the steering pump resavour. If the belt is on and you have fluid you may have a bad pump.
I hope this helps

Sam
