Re: Reformatting pc

This how you reformat a dell computer,

Firstly remove all external devices. i.e printer, scanner

  1. Then turn on you system
  2. When the DELL screen appears press and hold "control" on the keyboard, press the "F11 key" then release them both at the same time. "DEEL PC RESTORE BY SYMANTEC" will appear.
  3. click restore button
  4. then click on confirm. (progress will take 8 to 10 minutesto complete) When the restore is complete. The message "THE SYSTEM RECOVERY PROCESS WAS SUCCESSFUL" will appear.
  5. Click finish button. The computer will now restart. The system will be how it was whnen it was first delivered.
Once this is done I would suggest doing a windows update.

Re: Reformatting pc

What you need to do is put the XP cd in the cd or dvd drive first, then, when the pc is booting up press either F2 or Del depending on bios and the cmos setting screen will appear. Go to advanced cmos settings and the top line normal reads 'first boot device, this will be set at HDD or hard disk, this needs to be changed to cdrom. When you have changed it, save settings and exit, the system will now reboot and an option to boot from cd screen will appear, you then press Enter to boot from cd then follow the instructions to format or install windows.

My Dell Dimension 4600 needs to be reformatted. The Dell reinstallation OS disk boots up and gets as far as "Windows Enter to continue". Then it freezes. I have tried using both the original...

Before you go ahead and try reformatting the system , Please disconnect everything from the system (Except Mouse, Keyboard and screen)
and then try to use the disc to reformat the system. and if it still hangs up or freezes up that clearly seems to be a hard drive failure.

Hope this help.

Reformating my gateway E 4100

reformatting a drive is a big undertaking, formating the drive will erase everything, including viruses, before you format you need to make sure you have all the discs including the windows disc, driver discs, and a factory restore disc, also you make check the documentation on your system because alot of the gaetway, dell, emachines systems have restore partitions installed on the drive. Also youll need alot of coffee and alot of time, most importantly aside from the windows disc youll need a driver disc for any ethernet or wireless card you have installed. without this you will not have access to the internet most likely and donloading updated drivers is very helpful. This is a time consuming proccess unless there is a restore partition on the harddrive, the documentation will tell you how toaccess it if it exists, if not a restore disc will be nice.

Scrolling problems

the cd you have that comes along with your pc is the recovery cd. The recovery cd is only good if you like to restore to the previous factory default setup when you first purchased your computer. "Reformatting" is re-installing a fresh Operating system. I believed your problem is a unstable Operating System. by reformating you will have a very fresh system. You can call or go to the nearest computer repair shop to do the reformatting for you. Hope i ve help you in any way

I assume you want to reformat it and then reinstall some sort of operating system. The esiest way to do this is to reformat it during the reinstallation of the operating system. If you are using Windows XP, it gives you the option of using FAT32 or NTFS file system to format the drive. If you are using Windows 98 or ME, you can boot to the CD and use the fdisk/format commands found on the CD.
