Question about Dryers
For the past twenty-five years,I have creally enjoyed my Emerson Model WH30BDO30 INCH WHOLE HOUSE FAN AND SHUTTER SYSTEM. Lately it has been making a lot of nooise. I have replaced the belt but the intermittent squeaking and clanging persist. Sometime it mysteriously goes quiet, then the noise returns. Do I need to adjust belt tension, "dress" the belt, oil or clean the motor? Please advise. Thank you.

depends on the unit. you will probably have to slide it out of its case and clean the outside part . there should be a hose that goes from the inside to the outside for the water to go out. this hose may be clogged, trapping the water inside. as i always say a picture of the unit always helps so i can identify it and tell you what to do to try and fix the problem. email the pics to email@example.com

You can get replacements I believe. Call 979-553-3260 and talk to Gulffans Ceiling Fan parts. I know they have lots of Casablanca parts.

a simple capacitor tester will tell if the capacitor is bad. turn off power, label wires and where they go and test cap after discharging it . to discharge simply connect the terminals together once its been removed( you can use an insulated screwdriver to connect them and discharge any stored voltage) and then touch meter leads to each set of terminals and read the microfared output. the setting on the meter is usually labeled uf. or you can take it to the electric motor shop and let them test it. it has a rating value labeled on the side. usually it has to be within 10 percent of the rated value or its bad . if the cap checks good then the start winding in the motor is probably bad or weak, then a new motor is called for, it is usually not worth the time wait and trouble of getting it rewound etc. take the old motor out and label and measure exactly how and where it was mounted. label and make diagrams. saves a lot of time reassembling exact as it came out. turn off the power , check it with a meter to be sure , short it with a screwdriver to be sure the meter works ,and then treat it as if it was still hot as much as possible when you work on it.

You can buy the entire motor assembly for these fans. You do not need to remove the housing. All you need to do is remove the grill, take out the guts and install the new motor assembly. It will take about 10 minutes. Here is a nutone fan motor finder.
You can also try Nutone direct. www.nutone.com
