Emerson whole house fan model wh30ws

For the past twenty-five years,I have creally enjoyed my Emerson Model WH30BDO30 INCH WHOLE HOUSE FAN AND SHUTTER SYSTEM. Lately it has been making a lot of nooise. I have replaced the belt but the intermittent squeaking and clanging persist. Sometime it mysteriously goes quiet, then the noise returns. Do I need to adjust belt tension, "dress" the belt, oil or clean the motor? Please advise. Thank you.

SOURCE: Emerson Quiet Kool Drips Water into the house

depends on the unit. you will probably have to slide it out of its case and clean the outside part . there should be a hose that goes from the inside to the outside for the water to go out. this hose may be clogged, trapping the water inside. as i always say a picture of the unit always helps so i can identify it and tell you what to do to try and fix the problem. email the pics to eyg2181@yahoo.com

a simple capacitor tester will tell if the capacitor is bad. turn off power, label wires and where they go and test cap after discharging it . to discharge simply connect the terminals together once its been removed( you can use an insulated screwdriver to connect them and discharge any stored voltage) and then touch meter leads to each set of terminals and read the microfared output. the setting on the meter is usually labeled uf. or you can take it to the electric motor shop and let them test it. it has a rating value labeled on the side. usually it has to be within 10 percent of the rated value or its bad . if the cap checks good then the start winding in the motor is probably bad or weak, then a new motor is called for, it is usually not worth the time wait and trouble of getting it rewound etc. take the old motor out and label and measure exactly how and where it was mounted. label and make diagrams. saves a lot of time reassembling exact as it came out. turn off the power , check it with a meter to be sure , short it with a screwdriver to be sure the meter works ,and then treat it as if it was still hot as much as possible when you work on it.

You can buy the entire motor assembly for these fans. You do not need to remove the housing. All you need to do is remove the grill, take out the guts and install the new motor assembly. It will take about 10 minutes. Here is a nutone fan motor finder.

I have a remote control model # R520T, It was working in the past and now will not work at all. What do I need to do ? Sears told me that they no longer have this unit for sale.

That fan is most likely made by emerson. The model number you supplied is only for the remote and it is hard to tell from that number, if you could get the whole model number off the fan it would be better. With that in mind you can browse here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/items/?_nkw=universal+ceiling+fan+remote+control&_sacat=&_ex_kw=&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_sop=12&_fpos=&_fspt=1&_sadis=&LH_CAds=&rmvSB=true

to see if one looks similar to yours. The real issue if you want to try and repair it lies in the rubber buttons that you press to operate the fan, Those buttons have carbon impregnated rubber and they oxidize over time and don't make a good connection. Take out the battery and look for screws that hold the unit together, remove the screws and separate the housing. Take the electronic board out and clean the contact side that faces the buttons with alcohol and q-tips. Do the same to the bottom of the buttons. Reassemble it and test it.

My whole house fan has been having problems. The motor gets very hot and turns off. After cooling, it can work again (though I am not keeping it on!) The whole house fan is a Sears fan. The original...

Ada, I think you have already diagnosed the problem. It's the Leviton timer. For whatever reason, it can not handle the fan motor without over heating. The best indicator, was the melted hot wire. Perhaps the switch was defective from the start. I suspect the timer was rated for a ceiling fan and not a whole house fan.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

You should be okay just buying any generic universal remote. Any remote requires programming to work with a specific TV, but universal remotes are easily programmable. The instructions included with the universal remote will detail how you program that remote to work with your TV (usually along the lines of simply putting it in programming mode, and pressing the power button until it turns your TV off, and then locking it in)

Emerson CF4800 with SW375 receiver that does not turn on fan!

Please excuse me if you already have the answer, but I went thru the same thing and found that the actual receiver was broken. The receiver that is found in the top part of the fan itself. I was able to diagnose the problem because I have two of the same fans in the house and when I switched the receiver units, the broken fan started to work. Hope that helps.
