SOURCE: Laptop wont start up

At this point your Operating System is Corrupt and has to be reinstalled

The only fix is to install your factory restore disk to Restore the System unless the notebook comes with a full system restore; you can call the company to find out, some have a small division of the Hard Drive where with a New O.S. Installation sometimes including all the Programs the Notebook came with when new.

Ofcourse this procedure will erase all your data if it is still there.. If you are experienced with hardware or daring and the Hard Drive is accessable it can be removed BEFORE you do the reinstall and added to a "healthy" Computer via the USB port though an external Connection.

It pays to buy a Kit that provides connections for this. Tigar Direct sells it among others: "5 in 1 " USB cable which connects SATA and IDE drives drives to any USB port in another Computer. If you Hard Drive is SATA it will need an external Power Supply which is provide, if IDE it runs off the Healthy Computer's USB port.

FInd out where the Hard Drive is on the Notebook. Usually its easily reached on the bottom of the COmputer in one of the screwed in panels. If you dont know where it is remove the covers one by one. The Hard Drive is a small rectangular module 2.5 " x 3.5" x .5 ".

Carefully remove the HD (hold by sides not in the middle) and disconnect the plugs. Determine if IDE OR SATA . Its most likely SATA so you will need the included Power supply. Follow the instructions to connect it and plug in the USB plug to the "healthy" computer. IDE drives have a series of connectors and easily distingused from SATA which is more common.

Simply connct the USB plug to any free USB port in your other COmputer... Go to MY COMPUTER and look for your drive. IT may appear as a "D" or "E". Left click on the drive Icon and you should see all your files. Starting with MY DOCUMENTS or where ever you save most of your data open the Folders one by one on the drive and either cut and past or drag your folders and files to the DESKTOP of the Healthy Computer by dragging it from this drive directly to the desktop of the helper computer by putting the cursor right over the folder or file and dragging it out of the My Documents Box and directly on to the Desktop and one area. You may want to create a TEMP file in the Helper Computer and drag all your saved folders and files there.

When you finished saving all your old data shut down the Helper COmputer and remove the Use Connection, disconnect the drive back in your Notebook, (carefully the same way it came out) THEN PUT IN THE FACTORY INSTALLATION DISK and reboot the computer and it should book to that disk. Follow Instructions to Reformat your drive and restore it to FACTORY (new) condtion. If you do not have this Disk then Call the Computer Manufacturer and ask that they sent it to you or how to access the Notebook's own recovery system IF it has one.

After its finished and working again (probably a LOT better, like new actually), go back to the Helper Computer and copy your data BACK to your Notebook by using any method you know: Thumb Drive, External HD or if the two computers are Networked than you can do it via the network but you first have to Re-establish the Notebooks Network Connection. You can just use a Small USB Thumb drive and copy all your saved folders to that and then plug it into your notebook USB port and Look for it in My COmputer and copy upload all your folders and files back to the notebook....

NOTE: If you find your Notebook HD initially or you have difficulty copying your old files to the Helper computer or the Drive makes a CLicking sound etc etc and you cant copy anything from it than IT HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH A NEW DRIVE. Unfortunatly you will lose all your old Data unless you want to risk sending the broken drive to one of these on line sites that claim they can save ANY lost data, some can but they charge accrodingly: $2,500 and up hehe.

Most often the drive is still good but has a corrrupted O.S. and if you do the ubove procedure, you save yourself a few hundred $$ for this annoying repair. The Drive adapter kit costs about $15 and it can be fun and a good skill learned as this is THE major procedure for the vast majority of computer Repairs.

Good Luck

SOURCE: i recently tried to update my ATI catalyst

The only thing I can tell you is that you need to run a anti-virus program and anti-spyware/malware program to make sure that you computer is not infected. I have had times when my computer was so full of malware, spyware and infected files that I could have my computer access my internet connects but could not get windows internet explorer to open a website.

I would suggest downloading the following programs if you are not running them and get rid of nortopn or mcaffee:
spybot search and destroy-

You could try removing items from startup. Start > Run > type MSConfig > Startup. Uncheck items you don't want to load. This will make your PC faster. This can also be done with CC Cleaner if you haven't done so already.
