See the steps and fix it. God bless you

  1. Main control boardIf your microwave runs for a few seconds and stops, the first thing to check is the main control board to ensure that a shortage has not occurred. If the part is defective then it will need to be replaced to prevent continual shut offs. If this is not the issue, the next step would be to check for a faulty touchpad.
  2. Touchpad/Control panelIf the control board is not the issue and your microwave continues to shut off after running for only a few seconds, the next thing to check is your touchpad, which is also known as a control panel. Although uncommon for this issue, symptoms are usually that the display and some buttons are working properly; however, when selected some buttons are not functioning. If this is the case the touchpad will need to be replaced.

Sharp microwave model R-218L(W) I changed the burnt fuse after a power outage. It now powers on and works but not cooking

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
My experience is here:
http://blog.fixya.com/index.php/2010/05/award-winning-service
Most likely the fuse failed as a result of a power diode or capacitor failure and not a a result of a power failure. You can see the diodes here:
http://www.appliancezone.com/SearchProducts.aspx?ID=WB27X608&x=12&y=9 If the diode or capacitor fail the unit will not fire the magnetron and will cause the internal fuse to fail. One these smaller 800W units if someone operated the microwave empty it often caused the diode to fail.

You have to ground the capacitor multiple times with the BLADE of a screwdriver then disconnect the diode from the capacitor to test it with a meter. In one direction it will read continuity and in the other direction (leads reversed) it will read open. No other reading is acceptable. Opens or shorts in both directions = bad diode.

To test the capacitor you probe bothe terminals with a metsistance scale of R X 1,00 or preferably R X 10,000 watching for a brief jump in resistance and then the meter drifts to infinity each time the meter leads are reversed. No jump or an open or ground for that matter = bad capacitor. These are the 2 main reasons microwaves stop cooking.

I think you will find the diode is bad.

GE Spacemaker XL 1800 Microwave. After removing heated food, I closed the door and the microwave sounded like it was powering up again. However, no internal light came on as it does when the unit is...

Be sure to keep this oven unplugged or the door open until it is fixed. If it runs by itself, this is a fire hazard.

First listen carefully for a buzzing sound behind the control panel when the door is shut.

If it's present, chances are you have a failing capacitor on the control panel assembly, which can be repaired for $39.95 in most cases. Details are here.

If that or a louder buzzing is only present when you have the door closed, then the oven is cooking when it's not supposed to, but the cooling fan is not on, and it is overheating and tripping the breaker.

That would be due to a shorted cook relay on the control board. That can also be repaired with our $39.95 service.

The odd characters on the display concern me separately. This could mean you have a noisy or otherwise failing magnetron.

If the display is fine when you're cooking properly with it, then the magnetron is probably okay.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

My 2 years old RCA microwave oven model RMW1480. Now when you cook over 2 minutes, it will cut off power, and cause my fuse box jumped off.

your magnatron is failing and is pulling too muck current, youmay also have too small of wire and breaker for this unit or a screw has hit the power cor in the wall, or have a weak breaker

Everything works but it doesn't cook...no heating whatsoever

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

This is a job for a professional but if you are safety clued up, here's instruction.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!), the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

Magnetron used with no load.

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it. Using the microwave with nowhere for the energy to go results in magnetron meltdown!
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.

The magnetron may be all that is required but the diode pack may also have failed. These components are Safety Critical Items and MUST be replaced with identical units for continued safety.

Spare parts are available through the Manufacturers Authorized Agent. Go online to find a supplier near you.

Hope that helps.

Touch control failed on GE Spacemaker Microwave HVM1540

If you want to order a touch pad, (it has the micro computer built in it!) and fix it that way, you'll still have a 2-3 year old machine.
I would say it would be quicker and cheaper to buy a new one.

Panasonic Microwave oven - cooking operation stops afer 2 seconds

Sounds like a short in the microwave circuit. One or more of the following four components has failed -

Transformer
Magnetron
Diode
Capacitor

Repair is not for the amateur, unless you know how to take things apart, and put them back together EXACTLY as the were found.

Parts are available on the Net, and you can get the P/N's off the old components to identify suppliers of the new ones.

Don't try and measure resistance of the diode. It's impedance is far too high to get a good reading. They're cheap anyway. Always replace the capacitor, they're cheap too. No way to test the magnetron, and the transformer is not easy to test either.

GE Spacesaver microwave trips the circuit breaker

Since power = voltage X current, 1.58kW / 120VAC = 13.166A

So this unit should be fine on a 15A breaker unless the breaker is bad, the wiring or a connection is loose somewhere between the breaker and the microwave, or the microwave's magnetron or high voltage transformer are failing and drawing extra current.

Microwaves should really be on the own separate breaker if at all possible. Plus, the more a breaker trips, the more work out it gets.

Have you measured the voltage at the outlet? If that's off, current and power will be affected. It should be about 110-125VAC.

A good power test for outlet and wiring integrity is a toaster, toaster oven, or hair dryer rated at about 1500 watts.

If it doesn't run and heat steadily, then there may be a problem with the house wiring or breaker.

If it passes this test, the problem is likely in the microwave.

GE Microwave problems after HV capacitor replacement???

The rectifier diode could indeed be bad. But first I would want to know what value (in uF) the old one was and what is the value of the new one? If they're too far off, the difference in the capacitive reactance could throw off the "tuning" of the circuit. The uF value of the capacitor is optimized in relation to the other components used in the system. Of course, you'd also want to be sure your new cap is at or slightly above the working voltage rating of the old one, too.
