SOURCE: Compressor comes on, works for two minutes then

Your compressor has a safety built into it called a thermal protector. If you were to feel the compressor after one of these short cycles it would be extremely hot. Your compressor is malfunctioning, and it could be several things. I will list them in order of highest possibility;
Very low on refrgerant, Extremely dirty coil Fan motor failing, not enough electricity supplied to maintain compressor(should have its own circuit not shared) motor windings to compressor failing, restriction in refrigerant line, low voltge switching problem , wWithout a multimeter and gauges the two that you can ensure are clean coils and running it on its own circuit with proper sized wiring, you can clean the coil with a house hold sprayer and mild cleaner. Good luck

Ruud UAKA-030JAZ fan spins, not blowing cold air

there are 3 things to be considered, first,if the compressor motor `s connectors are having loose,it gives a hi ampere to your RELAY that can cause to its contacts being fried, second, the compressor motor itself is gaining a hi ampere already i.e. having unusual sound that can cause heavy friction inside the turning mechanism and third the last but not the least, maybe this time, the tubes or the compressor itself having very small holes that causes to the refrigerant to escape and it doesn`t gives off cold air.

Emits high pitched whistling after unit runs for 30 minutes

Sounds to me like the bearings are going bad in the motor. The hotter it gets the grease breaks down and the squealing starts.

I have a KF9000E used to cool a network rack. The unit worked fine last summer. As the weather warmed up this year I turned it on and it keeps tripping the electrical breaker. Anyone have any idea as to...

Run it on fans only and see if it runs. If it does, suspect the compressor. It may be something simple like wetness in the electrics. One component appears to have a short circuit or earth fault. If you can isolate them in turn and switch on until it no longer trips you will know which one is faulty.

Leaves about a 1/4" of nail from seating

This can happen for a number of reasons.

1) Insufficient air pressure (should be set to around 100PSI)

2) Hitting another nail or other extremely hard surface (old roofs are known for this)

3) Defect in the gun or lack of lubrication.

Since this is a reconditioned unit, I think that the gun is probably fine. Verify that the compressor has the correct pressure and that the hose is large enough in diameter to deliver sufficient air to the gun. Check the CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) rating of the compressor/tank combo against the requirements of the gun.

Keep us posted,

My freezers compressor is getting very hot and the freezer is not freezing

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

A hot compressor and freezer not working properly can be a few things.

1. The Compressor may not be running at full speed due to a dragging rotor or a bad run capacitor. Additionally a weak thermal overload / Klixon and or PTC relay on the compressor itsdel can cause the same symptom.

2. The Evaporator is clogged with ice due to a defrosting problem causing poor airflow through the evaporator coils and lower freezer temps.

Here is what I recommend you do first off.

A. Unplug the unit for about 30 minutes to allow the compressor to cool down. At the end of that 30 minutes just as you plug in the unit have someone listen to make sure the compressor starts and runs properly. If it runs properly at that point it can still be any of the items described in paragraph 1. above.
1) Montor the temps after the 30 min off period for 24 hours. If it is normal fine. If not see next paragraph.

B. Poor freezer temp condition persists perform a MANUAL defrosting:

Again unplug the unit. Remove the contents of freezer and place a fan blowing into the freezer section for a little 2 hours. This will make a water mess so be prepaired. After the 2 hours plug the unit back in and reload the freezer contents. 4 - 6 hours later check your freezer tremos to see if they have returned to normal. If the temps are normal your unit has a problem with the defrost cycle and will require further service to correct the defrosting problem.

There is a bit more but the above is a good start. If you stillhave the problem reply here and we can go into the defrost circuit or compressor troubleshooting procedures.

Thanks for using FixYa.

AC does not cool. Compressor kicks on and off (Humms when trying to start, electrical smell)

There are a couple possibilities:

1. If this is the first time you've started them for the season, one of the compressors might be seized up from sitting over the winter. In which case, new compressor required.

2. If you've just had the compressor serviced including recharging the system, it's possible that the system is simply overcharged. This will stop the compressor from working and giving you the same symptoms as above. If this is the case, you should have the service people come back with some guages and recover some of the refrigerant and the compressor should be fine.

3. If the unit has been sitting and there is a slow leak then there is not enough pressure in the system to allow it to run. The compressor will shut down if there is not enough pressure, but since you say there is a smell, i really doubt this is the case.

Most likely it's #1 or #2 above. If you haven't had it serviced recently, then yeah, it sounds like you're in need of a new compressor.

Good luck.
