2005 Stratus Sedan dies while driving

While driving my Stratus, I heard the chime that usually precedes the illumination of the engine light. No light appeared and after driving a short distance, the car bogged down and died. When turning the ignition, the car would crank but not start. I noticed that I could not hear the fuel pump turn on as it normally does. I checked all the fuses and even swapped relays but same result. At this point I had the vehicle towed to my home. Once off the truck, I decided to try it again and it started. A little hard at first but once it got fuel it was OK. The car now starts right up, sounds great and you can clearly hear the fuel pump prime when turning the key to the start position. Obviously I'm a little hesitant to drive it because I have no clear reason for the failure. Any suggestions as to the possible cause would be appreciated.

Most likely the fuel pump. Pumps have many symptoms and this is one. Once the fuel gets warmed up the pump will slow down or just stop. After the fuel cools down, the pump returns to working. Next time it happens use a soft hammer or some like it to hit the bottom of the tank, approximately where the fuel pump is located. This jars the pump and usually it will start back up.. Change the pump.

How long would it take roughly for everything to cool down? The car had been sitting for 2 hours before the tow and the driver tried to start it before loading it. The tow was about 30 min. The car has been running great so far.

SOURCE: Engine willnot crank

You will need to check for a crank signal at the starter solenoid.

SOURCE: Hey guys, my caravan started this morning then shut off and won't start again. Heres what I did so far checked fuel pump fuse good, fuel pump relay good swapped with other. Removed neg battery cab

If you have voltage at the fuse and relay, and at the pump, but no fuel pressure, I would say the pump has died or the tank is empty.
Have you checked for voltage at the pump yet ?

Dodge Stratus dies while driving

Sounds very much like your fuel pump is done for. After it runs for a bit it starts to get hot & quiets working once it cooled down it started working again. This is very common but more frequent if fuel in tank is low. It realy will take a fuel system test to verify.

How do I get my electronics to work again?

I would also check the relays and the fuses in the engine drivers side I believe. Also the ones inside. Yes I do believe there is a fuse behind the stereo but when my battery died in my 04 durango it killed the cd player but the radio worked. I would check all the stuff you can to your ability. Does your stratus have a box next to the postive cable to the battery where it hooks on the terminal. You may need to replace that.

The light on my PT Cruiser, 2005, comes on and chimes. There is oil in the car and the car runs fine. Is there a reset switch that should have been reset after I had my oil changed? Or is there something...

Which light comes on and chimes?
No there is no reset.
Let's first focus on which light is illuminated? The Check Engine Light or another light?
If the check engine light, have you had the trouble code read?

Where to locate cam sensor on 2005 didge stratus

If you have the sedan as I do, open your hood, and looking straight in, it will be on the left side (passenger side) of the engine. On the sedan model it can be found under the large upper radiator hose. There should be two small retaining bolts, and then the sensor simply pulls out.

My 2005 dodge stratus sedan just today, the engine

A fuel pressure test will tell you if the pump is performing as it should, the first step would be to scan the computer to see what the code or codes are. Has the vehicle had a tune up recently if ever?
