Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hello. I just purchased a gateway dx4870, brand new and wanted to upgrade the video card so I went with the nvidia gtx 660 and a new power supply of 520watts. Installed the new power supply works fine. I Cannot for the life of me get the video card to actually send a signal to my monitor. I am using the dvi to VGA port it came with but if I try to plug it into the onboard VGA it does nothing either. I have tried disabling the integrated graphics and there is no bios option for the graphics. I did ipdate my bios as well. Can anyone help? It's driving me crazy.

SOURCE: Hello! I have a processor intel

No ghinea18 you Cannot use the Integrated Graphics (OnBoard) of the motherboard, and the Nvidia GeForce 7300 graphics card, at the same time.

BIOS will only let you use one or the other.

Your graphics card Must have two graphics ports on it to use dual monitors.

Your graphics card can have a VGA port, and a DVI port,
Or
It can have two DVI ports,
in order to use dual monitors.

This example, 3D Fusion GeForce 7300GS graphics card, has a DVI port, and a VGA port,

http://www.amazon.com/Fuzion-GeForce-Express-Graphics-3DFR73256GSLPEI/dp/B000F7R8Q2

"Connectors: DVI-I, VGA, HDTV"

Example of a VGA port (Connector),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SVGA_port.jpg

Example of a DVI port, (Connector),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:DVI_Connector_Pinout.svg

(Pinout, actually)

If you have two VGA monitors, use a VGA to DVI adapter on the monitor's cable. (Female VGA to Male DVI)

If you have two DVI monitors, (LCD flat screen - Digital), use a DVI to VGA adapter on one of the monitor's cables.
(Female DVI to Male VGA)

With both monitors connected to the back of the graphics card, turn them on.

Now turn your computer on.

Put the main monitor that you always use, on the Left side of the computer desk.
This is the Primary monitor.

Put the second monitor on the Right side, of your computer desk.
This is the Secondary monitor.

Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen.
Click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

Click on the Settings tab.
Now you will see two monitor icons.
One with a 1 in it, the other with a 2 in it.

The 1 monitor icon is your Primary monitor.
The 2 monitor icon is your Secondary monitor.

Left-click on the 2 monitor icon.

Now go below to where it states >
Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor.
Left-click on the empty square box to the left of the above.

Go below to the right, and left-click on >
Apply.
Now go below to the left, and left-click on > OK

Your desktop screen will now be on the Secondary monitor.

When you go online:
You have to drag the screen of the Primary monitor onto the Secondary monitor.

On the Primary monitor go to the right side of the screen with your mouse cursor.

When the cursor approaches, and touches the blue frame of the screen, it will turn into a Double-headed Arrow.

It's a little tricky at first, but you Must keep the mouse cursor into a double-headed arrow.

Double-headed arrow enabled, left-click, AND hold the left mouse button down.
Drag the screen to the right.

Keep going, and you'll see the screen appear on the Secondary monitor.

Not working? Go to the Left side of the screen on the Primary monitor. Drag it to the Left.

I have had a problem in the past while online, and using dual monitors, where I had to > Restore Down the window.

Click on the Restore Down icon at the top right of the screen.
(In-between the Minimize icon { - } and the Red X)

Drag the screen over. Maximize the window.

For additional questions regarding the above, or for clarification to what I have stated, please post in a Comment.

SOURCE: My computer using windows 7

Hi drago,

You can find your drivers here:

http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/
Download the drivers you need, and install them manually in the Device Manager.

In Windows 7, goto the Device Manager (click on Start, right click on My Computer, left click on Properties, click on Device Manager) Look for your video cards, click on the + to see which ones are installed.

Once you have the new drivers installed, you may have to uninstall the integrated graphics drivers to force Window to use the new card.

Hope that helps

Hello.

Since you successfully disabled the onboard video card and the card is not working, remove the card, enable your old card and re-install the drivers for ATI Radeon. Disable your on board card again and install the new card.

Also, try the ATI card in another computer to see if the card is faulty.

Hope this helps.

Soloution 2:It could be possible that your video card is not campatible with your current motherboard, out of intrest,What motherboard have you got?

(suggestions for video card upgrade on Gateway DX4870-UB318)

I know a Asus 7770 2GB works great with this pc. For some reason I couldn't get a Nvdia GTX 650 Ti to work on this computer. I would plug it in I wouldn't get anything on my television or audio. I recomend you purchasing the Asus 7770 2GB because I have it and I can play all my games on Ultra settings including Battle Field 3. Of course you would have to upgrade your power supply to at least 500 watts. Hope this helps, if anyone can solve my 650 Ti issue it would be a big help. Thanks guys I hope you have a great day!

Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 is a very good choice but could be on the edge for the power-supply so to be sure spend some on a better power-supply!

Hello, I have a gateway gt5520 that i want to upgrade the graphics card in. It currently has a nvidia geforce chipset in it but it has a pcie slot for a graphics card. My question is what is a good well...

Well generally, with prebuilt systems that you buy from the store you will also need to upgrade your power supply to something bigger so that you get enough power to power your new video card. I recommened going with a Hec 600w since it is budget orinated but, will support just about any graphics card. As for a graphics card you can go with a 8800gts from ebay for about $90ish dollars. And the hec psu you can get from newegg for about $60.

Nvidia geo force failure

The best place to purchase the Nvidia GeForce Go 7800 for a Dell Inspiron 9400/E1705 laptop is eBay. If available on eBay, the price could range from $230-$300 and search for "Dell 9400 video" or the card name. Some eBay sellers will give you a $50 or so credit, if you purchase a card from them. The video card can be downgraded (ATI Mobility Radeon® X1400 HyperMemory)
or upgraded (NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS or GTX). Also, you can try parts-people.com, but they're typically more expensive and reliable.

Yes, the video card can be repaired in most cases. Search eBay for Nvidia GeForce Go 7800 repairs.
