All HP printers are quite fussy on cartridges. Sometimes they just need the cartridge taking out and the contact panel cleaning off very very gently with appropriate electrical contact cleaner (Electrical Solvent Cleaner).
I find the easiest way to diagnose these kinds of error is to use another cartridge and see if you get a different error / response.
Even an empty cartridge is handy for this - it will just show up as being empty instead of showing an actual cartridge error.
If the error is accompanied by the print head moving to one end of its travel and slamming to a halt, then this normally indicates that the plastic strip inside needs cleaning - a simple job but does require the whole casing being removed :(
The service manual doesn't really tell much, beyond the main parts of the unit itself (I don't have a copy for that specific Officejet). As the cartridges are an all-in-one separate item it's not mentioned beyond saying where they fit.
In general, it's down to either cleaning the contacts, or replacing, the full cartridge to get past most errors on most modern printers.

Canon pixma mp272 printer. replaced black cartridge for the first time and now it wont print. getting error p08 on the printer and error 5200 on my laptop screen

Hello Hellen,
the error P08 is error for abnormal temperature in print head. Aa possible cause the ink cartridge is faulty and needs to be replaced. The same error description is for 5200 on your PC.

I recommend that you try to replace ink cartrigde under warranty in store where you bought it. If after that you still have error, take the printer to the service center because they logic board ( pcb ) is faulty.

Hope that helps!

Iam getting a 59.51 printer error I have changed he cyan cartridge and the error goes away but after 1 hour it comes back

Hmm, checked the service manual, the 59.51 does not show as a valid error. The 59.5X errors all deal with the cartridges, however error should be 59.5K or C or M or Y to indicate cartridge. Based on experience, I would check the black cartridge as it is the first in the list and it is possible that they used numbers instead of the letters on some versions of the firmware.

Plotter works perfectly except......doesn't print. It works as if it is printing, no errors, all normal (have replaced cartridge)

I will try two things:
  1. HP Service Manual page 1-3 recommends that whenever a Print-Quality problem appears, it is advisable to run a Print-Quality Plot to help diagnose the problem. It will help you differentiate between possible cartridge errors and other problems. Method: Follow Service Manual page 6-3 and all other related pages.
  2. Also HP Service Manual Page 4-12 described how to run a Carriage Test which checks the connection between the carriage flex circuit and cartridges.
The first method may be able to diagnose the problem and also is easier. The second method is more complicated, but you should be able to do it if you can spend a little bit time on it.
