Question about Dell Computers & Internet
If your laptop screen has been bent or dropped/liquid spills/squashed, and has obvious signs of cracks or damage then you'l need to replace the complete screen (this involves taking all of the screen section apart and fitting a new screen panel inside - it's not a complicated job but is best done by somebody who's used to this kind of work, takes about 20 minutes).
Note that a screen can be faulty with no signs of actual damage, and can just go faulty for no apparent reason at all, at any time.
If you're lucky, it may just need the ribbon cable inside refitting/cleaning - they do come detached occasionally. There's plenty of video guides on the Internet about this kind of procedure.
If the screen does need replacing, they vary in price depending on which type it is - there are several types, and many are interchangeable as long as the size and connections are exactly the same on the rear.
The screen must be removed to check on which type you need first though, there are lots of guides on places like YouTube showing how to disassemble screens for all laptop models.
Note that it 'is' possible for a laptops mainboard to develop a fault (very rare though) where the display is not right, and it's best to check the laptop with a replacement screen 'just' for testing, before buying a possibly expensive new screen. There are only 4 parts that can be at fault in any case . . .
Screen ribbon cable (cheapest part)
Invertor (unlikely to be the problem on yours)
Screen itself (cost depends on type/model)
Mainboard (the complete inside circuit of the laptop)
