SOURCE: want to remove the starter recoil from my powermate generator

I got one of these pieces of junk, and had same problem you described.

You will need to remove the end panel to get to the blower housing. You will have to thread the rope through the handle until you have enough slack to remove the rope from the handle. The end panel should now be free to remove entirely.

Find the 3 bolts that hold the blower housing on, and remove them. Once you get it off, make sure that the rope has a knot in it so it won't get retracted into the pulley recoil assembly. Take a screwdriver and push the rope back down into the pulley (that was my problem). Assembly is opposite of taking apart.

SOURCE: spring on recoil starter broke

Generic version of your starter is most likely available from small engine shop. Look for model and type of engine itself. Briggs stratton, honda, etc. model number if engine is usually on starter cover or stamped on block or tag attached. If the recoil part is riveted to housing you may need to either re-rivet or use screws to attach new rewind. Used parts are also available at small engine shops. Just take in the starter housing only for match-up. Good luck

SOURCE: have champion 3500 watt generator recoil pull cord wont recoil HELP

need to take the recoil off the engine and check for a broken recoil spring, depending on the engine if it is a honda, they sell a replacement recoil unit, anything else and you will have to get creative....try tapping on the recoil with your palm and see if it trys to rewind, if no resistance or movement when bumping is a good indicator of a broken recoil spring....

Where can I get an ignition switch for the powertrain pdg6500excs generator?

PowerTrain Elite Contractor Series 6500 Watts Recoil Portable Generator with Electric Starter you are outta luck, fabricate your own parts, they are not in business anymore, here are some comments,,,,
"This generator was built in china, but Honda sued them and is no longer in buissness.
"This is by far the worst generator I have ever seen in my life. The company must not even exist anymore because I cannot seem to get the generator to stay cranked for more than a couple of seconds. I have rebuilt the carb and flushed the gas tank and changed spark plug and just checked over everything, and still does the same thing. I was hoping to get in touch with the company that makes it and I cannot find anything on them or their products. Its like they never existed. If anyone knows any information on this company and how to get in touch with them please send me an email. patricknix2@gmail.com"

Recoil starter spring has unwound Briggs & Stratton 4 HP mower motor

you can buy the whole recoil + pull cord ready to install ,or have a small engine shop rewind it if you cant. some times the tab that held it breaks and you have to replace it.

Have a brand new 6250 generator I have never used.

If you've got a receipt that shows it's less than 2 years old you might be able to get your local Briggs dealer to take the blower housing off and see what is wrong with the recoil starter, have a look at this link http://www.briggsnetwork.com/maint_repair/BS_engine-warranty.pdf
Otherwise you'll have to do some troubleshooting yourself. The carb comes off first (you'll need an E5 torx socket to get the studs off), then the blower housing along with the recoil starter.

Did that help? Rate me friend :-)
