Subwoofer not working

Just received a new Dell tower this past week. (Dimension 9200C) It's confusing for us as we are relearning everything. We have gone from Windows XP Media Center to Vista home premium. With our last tower our speaker set up sounded GREAT! With this whole new set up our subwoofer does not seem to be working. It is up full blast and you hear very little bass. The sound is not at all comparable to what we had before. The only thing we have changed is the tower. I spoke to a Dell representative on Thursday and they couldn't seem to figure out the problem. They were supposed to call me back with an answer on Friday but never did. I will be calling them back this week but just thought I would see if you had any suggestions. I appreciate your input. Thanks. Tara

Re: subwoofer not working

Hi, What speakers (+sub) are you using (brand/model)? You have to consider whether it is basic 2, or 5.1 or 7.1. the Dell Dimension 9200C uses multiple sound connector at the back, the center/LFE connector (orange) should go to the sub-woofer in a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system. An online manual is available @ Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

Old Altec Lansing (no model number on them but they're at least 10 years old) speakers won't work on new Dell Optiplex desktop. They still work on the old Dell Dimension they were on and work on a Del

I have a similar set of Boston Acoustics speakers, which work fine for my tower.
I find it hard to believe that they would just fail outright, and also that (unless you bought an upgraded sound system) you would have digital-only for your audio.
I would recommend to check the basics first.
  1. Check the speakers on another device. Mp3 player will work fine.
  2. check the sound card on your computer (use a set of headphones or another speaker set).
  3. If you find they weren't plugged in, powered on, etc. resolve that. Usually the power plugs are black, and only fit in one spot. The audio cable to plug into the computer is similar to a headphones jack (3.5mm). On most computers the audio output (speakers) port is colored green.
  4. If none of these get you fixed, go into the control panel and click the sounds icon. From there you can view your volume levels (is the sound muted?), view your playback device (it might have a hardware problem, or be disabled), and test the settings.
  5. If you are still stuck after this please also post your version of windows, and the make/model of your computer. If you know it, the type of audio device you are using would also be helpful. (if it's a Dell standard device or perhaps an upgraded Creative or other brand device + model #)
Thanks for asking, and Good Luck!

Dell dimension e520, speaker problems

Don't you have a CD that have the drivers needed? There should be a support section in the Dell website. I'm talking about the drivers of course, but, is everything hook up right?

Speaker cable installation

1.  Check the orange multipin connector for bent or broken pins.
2.  Make you have the subwoofer plugged in to a live power outlet.
3.  Check the fuse on the circuit board inside the subwoofer.
4.  Measure the output of the subwoofer power transformer.  I think I remember it as being in the range of 12-24VAC.  Inspect the rectifier diodes for signs of overload.  measure the dc output of the diodes.  I think I remember 18VDC.
5.  Open the right speaker and verify the on/off switch is working.
6.  New Egg sells a multitude of similar speakers in the $40 to $80 range.

My speakers on my Dell computer quit working.

1) check audio driver is installed in system or not it may have some one remove audio driver.
2)If driver installed check volume is not mute.
3)If all thing is ok check speaker in another system by connecting it.
4) If spk is working in another system. it means sound card of that system is faulty.
