SOURCE: Aspire 3610 Bios Password???

The motherboard manufacturers are Phenoix, as it says on bootup. I'm not sure if you can recover the BIOS password by simple keystrokes/buffer overflows anymore, although I heard that some motherboards still have the password running in volatile memory, meaning that if you remove the battery it could reset the password (along with any custom settings and the clock).

SOURCE: Reset bios on Toshiba A215

This should be able to be solved by opening the Ram bay and shorting out two solder points. Usually marked with a "xxx". The notebook should be started with these solder points shorted. Once the pc is on, it should go through the normal process without asking for a bios password. Once the pc is restarted, the CMOS password should disappear.

Cheers.

Generally, all you need to do is get on to Dell Support and get in a chat with one of their people and tell them that you are locked out by a BIOS password, and needed to get around it. After they verify that you are the owner of the laptop, they should give you a password that gets you through it.

SOURCE: reset bios password

Most laptops do not have one and clearing the cmos will not help.

Contact HP, they have a master password that can get you in. You may have to fax them proof of ownership to get them to help. I had to do this on a laptop.

Hope this helps

I set a bios password and now i forgot it (like most people would). it asks for a password before it loads windows. i would like to get pass the password and into the windows booting system.

Welcome to Fixya

There is no way for you to decipher the motherboard BIOS password. You may try to take out the CMOS battery of the motherboard to reset it the board but it is not 100% guarantee that the password will be wiped out.

If taking out the battery will not fix the problem then you need to send in the computer to lenovo and have them reset the motherboard. They have the right tool reset the board.

I have lost the bios password... any body help me to recover without opening case

This is a tricky one because the BIOS password is made to be the hardest password on a computer to break. Some manufacturers allow you to enter BIOS without the BIOS password but most do not. Here are some troubleshooting methods starting with the easiest and moving on to the hardest.

To enter BIOS hit the F2 key repeatedly as the computer boots up. You should enter BIOS after the first loading screen. If this does not send you into BIOS, try the ESC, DEL, and F1 keys. Once in BIOS find where you can set the password and reset it or enter a blank password as your new password.

If you can't access BIOS or are prompted for a password once you enter BIOS, try the following methods to flush the BIOS password cache:
1. Contact your manufacturer's support and ask if they have a backdoor BIOS password that they will allow you to use. This works to allow you to enter that password instead of your own and easily fixes the whole problem, but not all companies will tell you their password. You can also do a google search for your manufacturer's backdoor BIOS password since many of them have been discovered.
2. Send your laptop to your manufacturer to have them reset the password manually, although this takes an undisclosed amount of time and they will often make you pay a fee if you are not under warranty.
3. If you don't want to pay your manufacturer, open your laptop and locate the motherboard. On the motherboard there is a CMOS battery, if you don't know where this is use your PC manual. Remove the CMOS battery for an hour and then place it back on the motherboard. This should reset the password. After this turn on your computer and enter BIOS. This will reset all your BIOS settings so it may take a few minutes to open. After it is open, just exit BIOS and everything should be working properly. Just be very careful when opening the laptop and handling the CMOS battery because you can severely damage your laptop if you don't handle it properly.

Where do i locate the jumper?is there even one? can i reset my bios password internally or is there a universal bios password reset for averatec?

Try pulling out the cmos battery and holding down the power button for 15 seconds see if that clears the bios settings, if not do a search on line for *********** board jumper settings and you should get some thing.

Forgot my bios password please help benny

There are a number of reasons why we might set a password to protect our BIOS from changes. The problem is that we only need to go in there once in a blue moon, making the password easy to forget, locking everyone out. I had a situation many years ago where a colleague suggested the purchase of a new motherboard because they couldn’t remember the password. I got that little bit more frustrated with my job that day.
There are various options you can use to get back into your BIOS. All of them reset the BIOS back to default values, so make sure you’ve tried all of your regular passwords before attempting these methods. I have tried to keep it brief…
Newer Computers: Most newer motherboards have a jumper on them, which you can change the position of to reset the BIOS. Find your motherboard manual or search for the motherboards model number in Google. You want to find a diagram showing what and where various components and jumpers are on the motherboard. The manual should tell you which jumper needs to be changed.
Once you have changed the jumper, return the jumper back to its original position while the machine is off. You don’t want it to keep resetting itself. Turn on the machine and go into the BIOS. All options will be open to you.
Older Computers: The quickest way to get into the BIOS of an older computer that has been password protected is to remove the battery. The battery keeps the system clock going. Once you remove it, you can put it back in and start the computer.
When you start your computer, you will find your BIOS has been reset to its default values. You are now able to change any settings you want.
General: Some motherboard manufacturers have a secret password that will work, overwriting the password already locking the computer. These are readily available online with a bit of a search. I think this is becoming less common with time.
For more information on the methods above, tech-faq has a great article which goes more in depth.
