Does refrigerator have a reset button

Usually not but it does have a self resetting device called a klixon to protect the compressor from an overload

When i turn on my beer machine. It turns on and then makes a click noise and shuts down. No cooling at all anymore

What your hearing is the KliXon thermal overload tripping. The compressor is not starting and the thermal overload is trying to protect the compressor.

This can be caused by 3 things.

1. A locked rotor on the compressor. (bad news)
2. A failed PTC relay on the compressor
3. A failed run capacitor.

Usually a PTC relay and a run capacitor will bring it back to life unless the compressor is actually seized.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Motor wont start, control circuit good fuses, ols ok motor megs good, how would I test klixon temp sensor that is wired into motor?

Power off. Unhook wires to thermal overload. use an ohmmeter or continuity tester to check it. It should have continuity or read very low resistance (<1 ohm usually)

We bought this kenmore fridge in 2002, and it buzzes for about 15 seconds, then quits for about a minute.I'm sure its the compressor, but why all of a sudden, and is there any inexpensive fix?

The buzz your hearing is the compressor NOT starting. You should hear a click after about 45 seconds and then silence. The click is the KLIXON thermal overload doing it's job of hopefully protecting the compressor windings.

There are a couple of things that can be causing your problem.

1. The PTC relay / KLIXON assy is no longer working normally (sometimes caused by a loose / hot contact)

2. The run Capacitor has failed

3. The bad news... the compressor rotor is locked and will not turn.

The relay and capacitor are a moderatly priced fix even if you have in home service.

If the compressor is locked and has to be replaced then your looking at a repair bill well upwards of $300.00 with the compressor, pre-oil for the system, labor and Freon / coolant.

I have a Haier Model BD00T0E0200 that is getting power, the compressor is warm to the touch, is clicking occasionally, but does not cool. Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to Fixya. I am Kelly

First of all unplug the unit for at least 30 minutes and let the compressor cool off. That clicking your hearing is the "KliXon" thermal overload trying to protect the compressor because it is not starting.

Failure of a compressor to start can be caused by several things.

1. A bad PTC Relay / KliXon mounted on the compressor
2. A bad run capacitor
3 The bad news... a LOCKED rotor in the compressor.

There is one other possibility and that is that the power cord plug is not making good contact with the wall outlet terminals. (very rare that this happens)

Just make sure to unplug the unit for at least 30 minutes. Use a fan for cooling the compressor if you can by just pointing it toward rhe area of the compressor. After 30 minutes plug the unit back in and cross your fingers...... If it starts your in luck... If not then your going to need to service the unit.

Again thanks for using Fixya and if you need further assistance just reply here. We get notified of all responses. Kelly

It appears the freezer is not keeping the food cold enough and there is an occasional clicking noise underneath where I'm assuming the compressor is. Could this be some type of relay problem? This is a...

The clicking sound your hearing is the compressor trying to start but is not completing the start cycle or achieving run speed so the KliXon thermal overload is tripping trying to protect the compressor.

This can be caused by a bad start relay / Klixon,
A bad run capacitor or...
The bad news a bad compressor.

Letting it just click click click is not a good thing and will cause more damage. Unplug the unit for about 30 mins and then plug it in see if it starts normally.

There can be yet other issues like a defrosting timer contact problem that got weak / hot and isn't allowing enough amperage through to start the compressor.

Clicking from the back, no water and not cooling or freezing.

Does the clicking noise happen every 30 seconds to 1 minute? If so, the klixon thermal current breaker could be cycling due to a current overload in the compressor circuit. A quick test to see if it is the klixon follows:
Open the refrigerator door and observe the interior light while the clicking is occuring. Observe two complete clicking cycles. Does the bulb dim or flicker real low as if someone flipped the switch off and back on real fast 1 time for each clicking noise you hear? If so, your problem is probably related to what I've outlined above regarding the compressor circuit and it's related components.

Oven not working

I had the same problem. At the back of the stove is a plastic cover with thermal overload written on it.
Switch off your power.Remove the cover, pull out the two luggs and connect the two luggs straight to each other. Make sure the oven knobbs are in the off position. turn on the power. If your oven clock etc. comes on the thermal overload is faulty and needs to be replaced. It is fixed to the stove by a screw from the inside of the oven, so open the door and remove screw to remove thermal overload at the back of oven. Take sample to electrical shop and replace. DO NOT USE OVEN WITHOUT THERMAL OVERLOAD.

Haier HDN655E unit runs but compressor won't kick in

use a jumper cord and go directly to the compressor to see if it will run. if it don't run, open up the motor box and see if there is a klixon overload inside. this should be normally closed. if it isn't replace it. the klixon is a thermal overload cutout. it usually trips because of high winding temperatures and protects the motor inside. the compressor is a hermetically sealed unit. no, or little freon will cause the motor to overheat.
