We just brought our Kenmore Room Window unit back upstairs for the summer, plugged it in hit the Reset button- all we got was a beep and no action! We have a smaller AC running for now but I miss my big awesome AC! I opened the front and saw that the filter had been removed, but I didn't think that would be enough for it to not turn on.

The lightening may of caused a surge and your unit may have it's own protector that resets and comes back on after a time frame programed into it.

Count The number of flashes that you are getting in between pauses, This is a code. I will be glad to look up your code if you can count that for me. also i will need the model number.

We had the same problem and changed the setting to auto and the unit seems to be working properly now. Not sure if this solves the problem, but for the past 1/2 hour the unit has stopped jumping between 00 and the temp we set.

A good heating guy should be able to balance your dampers to increase the airflow upstairs. Keep in mind heat rises. 2nd floors are the hardest to cool. You may need to add more returns to pull the heat down the the evaporator so it can be cooled. If you are lucky you may be able to adjust your blower up to a higher speed. You may have to even add some more supply airs. Check with your local building inspector. He may be able to give you a list of contractors in your area that would be good for this type of problem. Good luck>>>

We have had a similar problm and it has ended up being the energy saving light bulbs in the house, when we turn on the light switch on the energy saving bulbs they can send out a similar frequency turning on the ac unit, if you do not have the light bulbs its more than likely a fault in the pc or you have programmed the on/off timer to start the ac? hope this helps
