Question about HP Scanjet G4050 Flatbed Scanner
I cannot install the software for my G4050. Using 64 bit Windows 8 on an HP Pavillion P6000 series desktop.. I had it loaded once and used it extensively. but sometime a file (?) got lost and now it says a file is missing and to reload the software......That I cannot do. Using the installation disk I get an error saying that it cannot be installed using "run as administrator" even tho I am signed in as the administrator.... I went to HP's site and downloaded the "setup_full_G4050_14-5.exe" file for Windows 8....Still can't load...halfway through the loading I get an error box with no information in it just a red X and a continue button. When I hit continue the failed installation removes all installed files and restarts the PC...... I have done numerous registry scans, tried to load using "Revo uninstaller Removed the program with Revo uninstall.....all to no avail... Where do I go from here......

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Go to the control panel and look under cameras and scanners. Then look under events. You should be able to figure it out from there.

I tried all the "decent" uninstall solutions like running HP's Level 1-4 Uninstall batch files. HP's installation software still insisted that parts were already installed. Then, with the scanner connected, the installation software got into competition with Windows also trying to install the driver. The reinstallation was no good. Solution Center wouldn't even start, preposterously announcing that it couldn't find the scanner!
When you have a reliable clone of your c:\ drive you can try daring solutions. Such as this:
1. Search the c:\ drive for files and folder with "Hewlett" or "HP" in their names. Kill them all.
2. Search the registry for keys with "Hewlett" visible or buried. Kill them all.
After 1 & 2, reinstallation worked smoothly. And my computer still works! The only evidence of the violence is an undeletable file 3963d.rbf now in c:\Config.Msi. I will report back if serious computer problems arise.
The point is that manual uninstall is possible and none of the elements are in hidden places. Someone else can determine whether both file and key deletions are necessary and exactly which ones.
