A snap on mm250sl that i cant control the wire speed feed, from 4-10 on the dial it runs full speed, from 4 down it does nothing. ive had this welder for 20 plus yrs with no problems till now

The wire speed knob does more than control the wire speed. As the wire speed is increased the welding power must also increase and the circuitry to do this and keep things in sync is fairly complex. The fault is probably within that circuitry and the repair will require no small amount of skill and test equipment or a replacement circuit board.

Complex electronics can be fairly sensitive to high temperatures and voltage spikes and surges and apart from the natural sort that arrive along the mains electricity supply mig welding is an electrically noisy process that can be quite stressful on those electronics. 20 years of trouble-free operation is quite a good record...

Hobart beta mig 170 wire feed wont adjust

The variable speed motor runs on 0-24VAC controlled by the speed control dial. The dial may be toast. Replace this part first. You may verify the part failure by using a bypass wire to see if the motor runs at maximum speed without the control dial (rheostat or potentiometer).

If you completely remove wire from unit does it still slowdown and stop when you pull trigger?
If yes, then 2 most common problems are
A. Thermistor @ position PTC1 on circuit board
B. Drive Roller Motor

To diagnose, locate thermistor @ position PTC1 in upper middle part of circuit board.
It's yellowish round and about 1/2" in diameter.
Jumper Accross the 2 leads, use a small insulated screwdriver or meter probe.

1. Pull trigger on gun, when motor slows or stops then jumper the leads, if it speeds back up then it's the Thermistor
Replace with a Raychem RXE 1.85A @ 72 v
Or comparable, try EBay

2. If no change, isolate motor by removing the 2 leads and connect a 9-12 volt DC battery source, does motor spin? If not then motor is problem. If motor spins and is constant then additional troubleshooting needed, next possible issues are bad resistor or scr

Flux wire on Dual Mig Welder not feeding.

Change the contact tip. This is the most common problem. The tip gets burned and keeps the wire from feeding. You should always have extra tips on hand.

Hi,
To get parts for your welder you'll need to have the serial number off the tag on the case. This problem could have other causes, have you:
Checked the tension on the wire spool? You ought to be able to pull the wire by hand easily.
Checked the tension setting on the pinch rollers? Too much tension can drag down the motor speed.

You could also have a bad control card depending on which model wire feeder this is.

Regards,
Carl
