I need help trying to figure out how to fix my CDRW121. It has
stopped recognizing the blank CDRs. I have cleaned the lenses at no
avail. I also replaced three of the melted capacitors but the
equipment still doesn't work properly. Any ideas? Has anyone else
had this problem with this product?

The manufactures never give out any technical information or service
information about how these work for their particular design. If you have
some components that have been overheated or damaged, you can be sure that
there will also be some more serious damage. You would have to troubleshoot
the drive at the component level, using the proper test facilities to
determine the exact failed devices.
The obstacles would be to have the proper test and diagnostics equipment,
and to have replacement parts for the proprietary parts. You would be
economically and in a practical sense be better off to replace the drive
with a new one. It may even be a question of being able to do a laser,
servo, and tracking alignment. This is all done at the factory when
assembled, through service software, with the service CD disks.
Other than any simple mechanical fixes, or a simple electrical fix, I have
never seen anyone have much success at servicing one of these drives at the
component level.

I had a problem with a cdrw121 with it stopping right in the middle of a recording, but showing the cd as being full. I suspected a heating buildup problem with the write laser and added a small (30mmX30mm) cooling fan inside the cabinet blowing just a breath of cool air into a small opening in the enclosure that houses the write transport mechanism. This did the trick and I have not had any problems since. I can now write 79min 59sec cd's continuously for 8-10 hours straight. The fan was a 12 volt 80ma unit and I powered it from one of the ribbon cables that carried 12 volts and ground. The only other issue that seems to cause problems with this unit is that you must use recordable audio cd's. They have a flag prerecorde onto them that this system looks for, as do many audio cd players. This is very important.

That is an RCA, not a JVC, yes?
Make sure you're using CD-R AUDIO blanks. Not much else you can do - the
recorder portion is not a serviceable part, it's replaced a a whole
assembly, and way too expensive for an out-of-warranty repair.
