SOURCE: compaq presario 1200- no power-

i dont really say if your mboard will get a damaged..try to change your power plug..if it still not working, you have to open your laptop, so you can find or know if there's some thing wrong...maybe you should have to buy a new one instead of replacing it..coz, if some parts of the motherboard also have damaged, its very hard to fix.. the parts are very small and delicate to fix it..thanks..

How do i repair the motherboard when the capacitors are swollen

You need to have fairly good soldering skills to perform a capacitor replacement on a motherboard. There are many adjacent components that are both ESD and heat sensitive. You need to be able to ensure that you replace the capacitors with ones of the same microfarad and voltage rating. Also ensure that you observe the correct polarity. Even after all that, I'd say you chances of a successful repair are 50-50. But capacitors ARE cheaper that motherboards, so if you feel lucky, go for it!

My Dell optiplex gx 270 tower's chipset heats up and system shuts down and my friend's gx270 mother board is burnt due to same reasons

check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

check you CPU make sure its securely seated and has thermal grease might be getting to hot

another possible reason could be a memory dump you might be running to many programs at the one time putting to much strain on the CPU central processing unit

hope this helps

Can i upgrade my packard bell 5090 motherboard?

No. And old isn't what your PC is......it's ancient. Packard Bell machines from that era were in proprietary cases, making upgrades difficult if not impossible. Additionally, the power supply will probably be underpowered and will may not have the correct power connectors for modern mainboards . It's time to part with the old relic and get a new one.

My n81 over heats when i am use it for more than 10 minutes and causes the battery to drain and eventually turns off after that

This is a fault in the motherboard, a possible shorting in a semiconductor thereby draining high current and so the battery is drained.
In most cases the motherboard needs a replacement unless the component that is heating is discrete, a possible diode or regulator.
Need to take consensus after a visual check to estimate.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 1030us, and I replaced the fan due it going bad, and also the touchpad, and everything worked fine, till I started trying to turn it on, it gets all the way up, and i can enter my...

When you replaced the fan, did you clean off the old thermal compound from the processor and other chips and replace it with a fresh layer? It sounds like your computer is shutting down due to heat. Also, did you remember to plug the new fan into its connector on the motherboard? I know it sounds silly, but sometimes people forget, or don't seat the plug all the way and it comes loose.

There's also the possibility that the motherboard suffered some heat damage before you replaced the fan, but check the other things first.

Turned on and smoke

Is the burnt circuit on the motherboard or the power switch circuit board that plugs into the motherboard? Big difference, if the burnt circuit is on the motherboard then yes the motherboard is done and will have to be replaced, but if it's just the power switch circuit bard, then this is replaceable.

OVER HEATING

Hi,

Two possibilities:
  • the CPU is really overheating; and/or
  • the motherboard is falsely sensing high temp.
Corrective measure for an overheating CPU would be:
  • clean, re-lubricate or replace the fan;
  • clean or refit the heatsink. If it is overclocked, you may need a better heatsink.
If the CPU is not really heating up abd the motherboard is sensing erroneous temp readings, then the problem may be with:
  • BIOS version, try to flash and update the BIOS; and/or
  • check the temp probe underneath the CPU, it may need cleaning or slightly bending away from contact.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
