Question about Computers & Internet
I have a Gericom Radeon 9700 1580 XL+ Laptop. The 'Blue Screen of Death' has appeared. I have tried switching off and restarting in Safe Mode, but the Blue screen reappears with a message to go into BIOS and do things. How do I get into BIOS ? No indication on how to do it is given on starting up and F2 button doesn't do anything.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

The blue screen of death gives you an error code accross the bottom of the screen. Something like Stop: 0x0000........
go to microsofts website and on the search bar at the site type in the code beginning with Stop.....Microsoft has causes and solutions for the codes there.
If you know the code please post it. I may be able to better assist you with the code or error message.
Hope this helps you

well my friend Welcome to the world of XP sucks don't it, but all is not lost! if you have your copy of windows XP re istall the software, do a fresh install, delete the old system (Partition) and start with a New (RAW) partition, and install xp as instructed in the step by step installation. you will lose all the old data on your hard drive, but the system wull have a new lease on life, don't forget the automatice updates after your back on line, and to install NEW anti Virus software, turn on your firewall, and The BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH will lose and you win.
in the future be careful what web sites you visit, stay of Lime Wire, and blubster, and chose web sites wisely, and windows defender is a great product to tell you if you have a potential dangerous web site, if your warned DON'T GO IN!
This will fix u r problem! I guarantee it!, if you need a new XP disk, let me know.

"Unmountable Boot Volume." means that the system 32 folder has become corrupt and probably you will have to recover the system.
If you have XP CD for a clean install, you have to change the boot order from within the bios (F2 on boot up) and tell it to boot from CD.
This will change the boot order and allow you to reinstall the OS.
Be warned that you WILL loose data if this is the only option open to you.

You might try removing the Hard Drive from the machin and slaving it on your other machine. Then running a chkdsk in the command prompt or norton disk utilities. If either fails, backup your data on other machin and reinstall.

Since it is a Toshiba Tecra if you are not worried about losing data on the laptop you can try turning on the laptop and start pressing the zero key. It should give you the option to restore your laptop if you haven't deleted the restore partition on the laptop.
