Question about Gateway Computers & Internet
I hit the power button and the gateway screen comes on under that it goes from saying "preparing automatic repair them switches to "diagnosing your PC". I believe this means its stuck in a bootloop? Tried unplugging taking battery out, hit f11 while turning on. Help.

You'll have to check the warranty by using the serial #.. call Acer back and just ask to see if the warranty is still active.. don't ask for tech support.. they'll route you to india and you'll be stuck again.
As for the display going out... it's a little thing called the inverter. This is very common and not too difficult to fix.
I would however NOT replace it myself since it can put out one hell of a shock.
try this: https://secure2.tx.acer.com/FixMyAcer3/FixMyAcer.aspx
The inverter is located just under the plastic housing below the LCD panel. You can google: LCD INVERTER ASPIRE 5100.
best wishes.. this one isn't easy..
oh and your laptop is fine.. just the part of the LCD that has gone out unfortunately.

Can you plug a external monitor into the machine, most laptops have that serial port. If montor comes on, you have bad display or connections, If not you have problems with laptop....Good luck

Usually this happens when the vista boot loader fails. During boot up, keep tapping F8 and then select Disable Automatic Restart... and get the stop error code which usually starts with 0x

At boot up press F2 and enter BIOS. Here check if your HDD is recognized. If yes Ten your Windows is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. How to install and save your data follow the link below:
Crashed Windows : No Problem
If the HDD is not being recognized then run Auto Detect to recognize the HDD. If it works fine, if not then the HDD may need a change.
