SOURCE: Windows has encountered a problem communicating

I had similar problem with a Dell Optiplex 760 desktop . I went to BIOS disable external SATA and all additional ports which is not used like parallel and serial ports and it worked. I think its with SATA settings only .

So, the disk ("hard", not "floppy") drive in your computer is very soon to be "dead".

SOURCE: accer aspire 5715z problem file boot/bcd

It seems that the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) is corrupted.
Microsoft has completely reengineered the boot environment for Microsoft Windows Vista to address the increasing complexity and diversity of modern hardware and firmware. One aspect of this reengineering is a new firmware-independent data store that contains configuration data that influences the boot process. This paper provides an overview of this configuration data - called boot configuration data (BCD) - and describes how to use the related tools to manage boot options.
Step 1
Perform chkdsk which will repair the bad sectors of the hard drive.
To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

2. Type chkdsk/ f, chkdsk/r, chkdsk/i, chkdsk/c in the commands listed below i.e. (/f, /r , /i, /c).
Step 2
Try to load BIOS to default and check if you have similar issue.
Step 3
I would suggest you to rebuilt BCD. To do this, follow these steps:
To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
  2. Press a key when you are prompted.
  3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
  4. Click Repair your computer.
  5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
  6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
  7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.
8. Type bootrec /RebuildBcd , and press Enter.

Why does my laptop suddenly become unresponsive? ex:programs i have open become unresponsive and the laptop wont shut down unless i hold the power button

Start with a 'clean boot':
Start - run "msconfig" - go to the startup tab, de-select everything and reboot. Then go back in there and select the options one by one with a reboot inbetween, that will show you which item is causing the issue.

You didn't supply the Make, Model of Laptop or the OS you are using?Remove ALL media, CD, DVD, USB, Unplug , remove battery, plug in , If you can do a restore/recovery procedure. If that fails, open the laptop and reseat the HDD and Memory Mods. I don't know how old your laptop is , Can you open the BIOS? Is the CMOS battery good? Have you tried a OS Repair Disk? Hang problem

Computers, no matter the make or the model, have a tendency to freeze up. This typically occurs when you overload the RAM on the computer and the laptop can not process any more information. When your laptop freezes, you are not left with many options, so you'll you need to restart the system.

1.Press and hold "CTRL," "ALT" and "Delete" at the same time. Wait and see if a prompt window loads. If one does you can select the program causing the crash and close it. This allows you to return to using the laptop.
2.Push and hold the power button until the system turns off. Typically, you need to hold the power button down for a few moments before the laptop shuts down.
3.Remove the power cord from the laptop if the power button does not turn the computer off. Occasionally this can occur, in which case you need to find an alternative way of cutting the power.
4.Flip the laptop over if the power button is not turning the computer off. Find the battery compartment on the bottom of the laptop and remove it from the computer. Momentarily the computer shuts down. Leave the battery out for a few moments.
5.Insert the battery back into the computer and press the power button. Shortly, the computer restarts and begins to load the operating system.

I hope you find it very helpful.

I just purchased an HP Pavilion dv-7-3057nr. Several times, on startup, the screen remained black. I had to shut down by holding in the power button. Someone told me that by removing the battery and...

Yes, more than likely since it is a new laptop it is updating or patching something in windows. Sometimes this causes them to seem unresponsive when they are actually updating many files in the background. Check the status of your updates and when you do use the power button to force a shutdown ALLWAYS make sure that the drive light is not on or blinking.
