SOURCE: Machine stops during the normal wash cycle. It

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Unfortunately you do not mention at what point it stops so I am going to make a guess with this!

I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to rinse or spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Following are my complete and generic guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.

It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!
John C

Restart off

4.4 Restart Feature
If a fault occurs in the machine, the diagnostic system will detect it. However, instead of displaying
a fault code immediately, the machine will try to restart. If the fault was only of temporary nature,
the machine will restart and finish the cycle. If there is a continuous fault the machine will try to
restart a number of times.
This process could take up to 8 minutes depending on the type of fault. After this, if the machine
still cannot restart, the fault code is displayed and the machine will beep continuously. The number
of retries will depend on the fault that it has detected, however the maximum number or retries for
any one fault is 32 times.
The restart feature is turned on when a machine leaves the factory. For servicing we strongly
recommend that this feature be disabled.
To turn the restart feature on follow the procedures below:
1. Enter diagnostic mode (Refer to Section 4).
2. Press WATER LEVEL DOWN so that the low water level LED is lit.
3. Press POWER to turn the display off (the 5 leftmost wash progress LEDs will be flashing).
4. Press POWER to turn the machine on.
5. The machine can now be tested on any cycle.
To turn the restart feature off, either repeat the steps above or switch off the power to the machine.
The restart feature can be permanently programmed in to the machine's memory. When in
diagnostic mode press and hold ADVANCE down at the same time as pressing WATER LEVEL
DOWN. A long beep will acknowledge the setting has been retained in EEPROM. Press POWER
to retain selection as with size switching. To remove from the permanent memory, repeat the
above procedure.
Note: This feature is designed as a service aid only and should be left on in the customer's
home. To return to normal operation, and to reset the restart feature to the factory setting,
switch the machine off at the wall or disconnect from the mains supply.
4.5 Recycle Feature
The recycle feature, when enabled, will cause the machine to continuously repeat the cycle that
has been selected. At the completion of the spin cycle the machine will power off briefly then
power back up again and will start the cycle programmed.
This feature would be useful to help identify an intermittent problem, and would be best used if the
machine had been taken back to a workshop for service.
To turn the recycle feature on follow the procedures below:
1. Enter diagnostic mode (Refer to Section 4).
2. Press WATER LEVEL UP so that the Medium water level LED is lit.
3. Press POWER to turn the display off (the 3 rightmost wash progress LEDs will be flashing).
4. Press POWER to turn the machine on.
The machine can now be tested on any cycle.
Note: This feature is designed as a service aid only and should be OFF in the customer's
home. To return to normal operation, and to return the recycle feature to the factory
setting, switch the machine off at the wall or disconnect from the mains supply.

We can only use hot water in our Whirlpool 7.5kg WFE1070BD 1000RPM - how to we shut off the hot water and use cold water? We have tried only cold but the machine will not operate. Please help. Many...

Turn off the water to the machine. Disconnect the cold water hose from the back of the machine and put it in a large bucket. Turn on the water to see if you get full-pressure cold water from the hose. If not, the shut-off valve or other plumbing has a problem.

If you do get cold water from the hose, check the strainer inside the hose fitting on the back of the washer. Clean it if it is clogged. If you still don't get cold water in the machine, you have a problem with either the solenoid valve or the cold water fill contacts in the timer (the timer won't start until the tub is up to the selected level, but if the valve isn't opening or the supply line is otherwise blocked, the machine will never fill). Sometimes in this case you can hear the solenoid valve humming (normally the sound is masked by the running water).

If the problem is a clogged strainer, clean out the hot water strainer also.

I find I get better wash results with warm water (runs both hot and cold for the wash cycle). The soap is more active than in cold water, so I don't need quite so much, and the machine doesn't take as long to finish a cycle since it fills faster. Of course, the cold water has to be running to get the energy savings compared to hot only.

Water would not drain and was slow to spin

Hi Rick. Now on the FISHER@PAYKEL machines they will not spin properly unless all the water is out of your machine. Please look underneath the machine for me and you should see the pump which has a fan attached to it .It is located to the front right. Now turn the fan clockwise and anticlockwise a few times to loosen the pump as it may be jammed. The fan should freely. To look under the machine 1st you must bail some of the water out by hand with a small bucket or pot, enough to lean the machine back so you can look under the machine without it leaking everywhere. Now once the fan turns freely put it back on its feet and select a spin cycle and push the start button.Hopefully the machine will start to drain and spin. Please reply back on how you got on or if the machine still does not drain.
