POSSIBLE SOLUTION..

I just bought this camera for my daughter and after first inital picture after setting up camera, it also wouldnt snap a pix. It auto focused fine but wouldnt snap the pix.
I tried calling the GE digital camera support line but kept saying office was closed..and there is no online support for this particular model. The C1433 shares the same owners manual if you do a web search. I think Z4300 was meant for sale in UK because most reviews are UK based.
So after I gave up trying to contact GE , tried changing different settings, replacing battery, etc... finally I just RESET the phone to default settings and WHELLA... it worked. At least for now anyway.
Maybe there was a setting somewhere that was turned on accidently. Personally, I think the Menus and Submenus are a bit confusing.
So ...since I believe others are probably going to run across this issue, I thought I would share my experience.

SOURCE: No picture taken when shutter release is pressed

if you see no reation of the pressing of the button i.e. no focusing, no error message nothing , then most probably a simplest problem , the shutter release button may not be working for few reasons : 1) defective switch. 2) defective flex cable. 3) camera exposed to some physical jerk or dropping resulting into disalingment between inner switch and the shutter release button.

SOURCE: Digital Camera Malfunction

mine just started doing the same thing a few weeks ago. I had downloaded pixes to the computer, went outside to take picture and it started acting up. strange lines appear on the screen, but the codes are all there, and you can view the pictures that are on the card. no, the card is not full, the batteries are fine. I think it has a virus built in to start trouble so we will go buy a new one!

SOURCE: Nikon Coolpix l6

With the power off, hold the camera in your palm and smack the front of the camera on your leg or arm. You might have to smack it a few time to get it to work. It has to do with the camera CDD lense (shuttle) being stuck. By smacking it around, it will free up the lense. Being extra gentle with it though. It worked for me. Hope this help.

My camera Coolpix L20 is no working anymore. When I turn it on, the screen become white, nothing appears. The buttons's sounds it is OK, but no images appears in the LCD screen.

slap it into the lateral face , force the lens while turn on the camera, pressing OK while turn on the camera, it is risky but if you dont want to go to a shop camera you have to take this risk

How to change view on cameras

pressing the corresponding number button will bring that camera up full screen. the buttons surrounding the A - B output source button will change the way your cameras are multiplexed on your monitor. you can also change which picture displays in each box including multiples of 1 camera by pressing the enter button on lower right and using the jog wheels to move (inside wheel controls up and down- outside wheel does left and right) the highlighted number where you want to put the cameras image. press the associated camera number you want there and it appears. press enter to lock the screen.

Canon A700 black screen when i want to take a picture

Did you accidentally press the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera? This button manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. Pictures will still appear momentarily when shot.

It would appear you have a damaged LCD screen. The same problem happened to my daughter's V803. The camera will take pictures fine but you will only be able to see them if you download them onto a PC. A replacement screen can be easily ordered and replaced. Call Eastman Kodak. Their parts department can be reached at (800) 431-7278 ext 3. Tell them the model number of your camera and tell them you want to order a LCD screen for it. The cost of the new screen is $31.00 + $15.00 shipping. Don't let them talk you into sending it back for repair. You are looking at a repair bill over $80.00. To replace the screen, remove all of the small philips head screws that are in the chrome band that runs around the center ridge of the camera. After removing the screws, you will be able to separate the rear half of the camera from the front half. The LCD screen is pressed into a rubber gasket in the rear half of the camera. You will see that there is a small, flat orange ribbon cable that connects the old LCD screen to a black connector on the camera's motherboard. Using a VERY small flat blade screw driver, pry up the top tab on black connector. This will unlock the connector and allow you to remove the flat ribbon cable from the black connector. Remember the orientation of the old screen and its cable as you will want to replaced the new screen and cable exactly the way the original was installed. Using the same small flat blade screw driver, pry out the old display. Install the new display into the rubber gasket into the back half of the camera. Insert the ribbon cable into the mother board's black connector and press down on the panel to lock the cable into place. Lay the rear half of the camera face down on the table (rear buttons facing down) and place the front half of the camera over top of the rear half. This will allow you to put the camera back together and help prevent the new LCD screen from falling back out. The LCD screen has pads attached to the surface behind it. When you reinstall the front half of the camera, those pads help hold the LCD screen in place with pressure from the motherboard. Replace all of the screws. If you did it correctly, the camera will operate like new. Last word of advice. Buy a padded hard shell case for this camera. These cameras are well known for LCD screen failures due to shocks and drops.

Good Luck!
