Mower pull cord gets stuck

My pull cord gets stuck and makes a sound like it is hitting metal. my daughter may have damaged the metal housing on it when she was working on a loose wheel today. I cannot see any thing bent and I don't know how to remove the part where the cord winds into. it seem to have rivets holding it on.

Does it get stuck in or out, if it gets stuck out the retractor coil may have broken like the inside of a tape measure.

Make sure your flywheel brake is not engaged or the cover is hindering the mechanism somehow after it is installed

SOURCE: Pull cord replacement

You don't, you must remove the entire housing to replace rewind parts.

sounds like a coil issue, it is a u shaped multi-layered metal item next to the flywheel when you take off the pull cord housing or a short in the spark plug wire.

How to fix Mower cord stuck after hitting rock?

Pull the plug. MAKE SURE THE PLUG IS COMPLETLY REMOVED AND SEPARATED FROM THE MOWER!! Remove the cover with the pull start attached. see if you can turn it by the flywheel or the blade. If you can, you can just have the rewind repaired.
If not, then you have a probable bent or twisted crankshaft. Most likely not worth repair.

What is wrong with the toro push mower pull cord if it will not pull out?

I would say check the bolts that hold down the pull cord they are the same thread as the cover bolts but the cover bolts are a tad longer and if used on the pull cord housing they stick down to far and hit the fan blades on the magneto and it will not rotate

PULL CORD HOUSING IS REVITED TO ENGINE, CAN I DRILL OUT THE RIVETTES AND REPLACE THEM WITH SELF TAPING SCREWS?

You could, but you shouldn't. I assume you need to replace the cord? Remove bolts from the whole sheet metal housing, and remove the cord reel from inside.

From what you describe it sounds like the line may be tangled, remove the rewind housing in order to inspect the line up close.

After my daughter mowed awhile when i went out the pull cord was stuck and i can't start it

The drive shaft probably just needs to be lubricated. When you pull on the pull cord it turns the blade, so if the shaft that the blade is attached to won't turn, the cord won't pull.

If you turn your mower over and look at the shaft that runs up into the mower from the center of the blade, you can squirt some oil up into where the shaft disappears inside the body of the mower. Use a generous amount, and then turn the blade by hand (carefully so you don't cut yourself!) and squirt some more oil. The blade should get easier to turn, and once it's as easy as you think it's going to get, try pulling on the cord and it should pull with no problem.
