Question about Vehicle Parts & Accessories

1 Answer

91 TOYOTA MR2

The car will start up fine and runs smoothly for about 5-10min. It wont start again unless I wait about a few hours. The fuel pump isnt making a sounds when the ignition is turn on, so Im not sure if it could be a relay or the pump its self, the fuel line leaked gas when I removed the tank.

It sounds like a bad fuel pump that is getting hot and not pumping fuel.

SOURCE: x5 wont start turns over but wont start replaced

you have what is called a module in the distributer if that is starting to go out your vehicle may do that but completly out you have no power at all.if your fuel pump was out and it may have not.the way you test fuel pump find your fuel line disconnect the fuel line have someone try to bumb start the vehicle no fuel coming out of line then its your fuel pump did you do that first? check all fuses check all sensors that has to do with the starting or electric part of your vehicle not to be confuse with the emission control system that has nothing to do with starting of vehicle.check your distributer and your electrical coil witch is located next to distributer in order to save you money i allways do this go to service and parts the service person can look up faster and you can a print out to know what to check or a key that goes to your computer that is located under the dash board read your codes on your dash auto parts stores use to carry these and shows what codes in order to find out what the cause is.

91 acclaim v6. starts and runs good, but once its been running for awhile (hour or so), and i turn it off, it doesnt want to start back up, or does and dies. wait 2 hours and it starts right up. recently...

Sounds like either you have a clogged fuel line and or clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump is failing. What happens when the vehicle runs the fuel pump heats up, as it heats up it produces less and less fuel for your car. Eventually ti stops working until its cool again on faulty pumps. Given the age of your vehicle I would say you need to replace both pump and filter.

97 lumina, 3.1. Starts runs smooth, drive for 30

I just recently have been fighting the same problem with the same make/model/year vehicle. For myself, I would drive off and on through the day and it would run fine. Then suddenly after a start it would run rough and die. I would have to wait 20 to 60 mins before it would start again. I had it checked and fuel pump was only putting out around 19 psi. It should be around 41 psi. Had fuel pump replaced and no more problems. Furthermore, now it runs so much better. It's funny how over time I didn't notice how the performance was slowly degrading. Unfortunaley fuel pumps for this car run around $300.

Are you sure its no spark? It could also be a bad fuel pump... have you done a check for spark? If you pull one of the plugs out and lay it on the engine block and turn the car over a few times you don't see spark, or it just doesn't fire when it cranks?

I suggest you perform this test. If you see spark I can almost guarnatee that its a fuel pump issue.

Try this test if the one above passes. Pull off the intake hose (big thick hose attached to the throttle body) and spray in some starting fluid. If it cranks and tries to run but then dies, that suggests that there is no fuel getting to the motor which is usually a bad fuel pump as relays and fuses usually don't burn out on their own. These two tests should narrow it down pretty significantly. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
