Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV10 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Can't Get Camera off Standby

The camera defaults into standby mode when you slide it into 'camera' mode. To record, we have always simple pressed the start/stop button and it would come out of standby mode and start recording (and we would press again to put back into standby mode.) Now, we must press and hold the start stop button to record - if our thumb slip off the button, the camera enters standby mode. We've tried everything we can think of including taking the battery out, etc. and still it doesn't work. Camera performs fine, otherwise. Help!

Goes from record mode to standby automatically

Wow my friend do you need Ghost Busters? er no this is mostly a case of the main switch being on lock, or the main IC going down on the panel in the cameras brain area, check the locks first, if it is the chip you will need to call your Sony repair man (He will love you) with summer coming he will be able to go on longer holiday, because that wont be a cheap mend sadly.
Number for help then is 01256 828828, now what you will do for cash for your holiday I simply do not know.
Take care, hope it gets sorted out okay?

My GL2 only works when I turn it on to playback mode. When I try to turn the camera on in camera mode, it doesn't work. What could the problem be?

There is a simple solution to that... You see under the 'card-tape' switch? There's the red button for recording... attached to that button the is a switch that says 'tandby or lock'.... if you have it in 'lock' it will not let you go to record mode, you have to change it back to 'standby' and that should solve your problem.... Anymore question just e-mail me at and I was wondering if you had a copy of the installation CD I can buy or have.... or maybe you could tell me where to get it? Thanks.

My Sony Dvcam DCR-HC15E Mini DV Digital Camcorder is not being seen when I plug it into the USB port on my computer. I have downloaded a program called Driver Robot which is supposed to update my computer...

Go to camcorder Menu and enable USB Streaming option.
Computer / Windows will recognize camcorder and will install drivers automatically for further communications.

We are in the middle of a production (Live, right now) and one of our XL1's is shutting down whenever we hit the record button.

It may be timing out. Is the camera in standby mode? If yes, put it in record and lock.
I have an XL1 and a GL1 that sometimes shuts down. Is there a tape in the camera? It will time out sometimes if there is no tape rolling. Even if I am capturing directly to a computer, I always roll a tape, just to keep the camera from timing out.
What does your battery guage read in the viewfinder? A low battery will shut you down without warning. Try running from the power adapter if you have one.

Canon CCD GL1

Hey hill,
This happened to me one time. Judging from the date of this, you probably have found a solution. The bottom line is that the camera has accidentally been placed in "Standby" mode. It is the lever surrounding the back of camera record button. When this is moved to standby, the VCR mode works, but nothing for the Camera mode. Hope this helps.
