Question about Tablets & eReaders
I came home today and my ipad was black and turned off. I tried to charge it and it wouldn't recognize that I plugged it in. I tried to restart it and it wouldn't show any signs of life. HELP! It's an ipad2. (No nothing spilled on it). It was literally sitting on the bookcase.

Just a guess here! But i think you have battery failure ( not sure what you mean by let it sit up for a while..) You could try leaving it on thw AC charger overnight. If a battery is totally depleted it will take some time before enough charge is accumulated to operate the screen

SOURCE: Apple Ipad won't charge
IThe iPad needs more power than the average USB device. It doesn't run and charge at the same time on a regular USB port. If it doesn't charge with the original charger though, you have a hardware issue. You can always take it to the apple store and demonstrate the problem there, you'll probably receive a replacement. If you have issues with the warranty, there are third party places that will find our what's wrong. If you want to do it yourself, the good news is, it's not too hard to open it. Here is an iPad Repair Guide that shows how to open an iPad. If you want somebody else to do it for you go to iPad Repair NYC.

SOURCE: My iPad will not turn
If it refuses to charge when connected to any computer, charger using any charging cord and you have done a hard reset you have a broken logic board or dock connector and should take it to the apple store. If they won't help you, you can try to replace the part yourself, it is available on any auction website. There is an iPad Repair service that can fix it for you, but if you're a little tech savy you should use an iPad repair guide that teaches you how to do the repair yourself.

Try reseting the iPad by holding the home and power buttons simultaneously until the iPad completely shuts down and the Apple logo appears.
Once the Apple logo appears you can release the buttons. If this does not work, you may need to connect your iPad to your computer and do a factory restore using iTunes.
