O.k you must see if there are some switch for to put the input in 110Vac or 220Vac. since you have 230vac in australia, if you are in 110vac, the lights will burn inmediately.
If you have in 22ovac switch, if you have 230vac, the tolerance voltage +-10% is NOT problem for to burn, is BAD design for the manufacturer. However you must try to install in another receptacle since, you can have some overload in the line. use the amperimeter.
