My G5 has a broken belt inside the transmission and I can see the factory # still on it. PD 554289 , the local shops say they have never taken apart a tranny and that I need to buy a new transmission . this just does not sound right . there must be a way to buy a new belt again , I hope. thank you for any help .
I have a G4 with the same problem. I bought a transmission belt online for $4.00 plus shipping took the vaccume apart and slowly managed to slide the new belt on the gears. It now works but I have a loose belt that makes some noise. Any suggestions on how to tighten a transmission belt? You don't need to replace the transmission right away. Hi There,
Is it the main drive belts from the motor to the tech drive?
If it is the are very easy to replace by taking out the tech drive.
If it's a belt inside the tech drive unit you will not be able to buy the belts anyway as they are classed from kirby as a sealed unit.
Hope this helps
Chris

The part number for the single belt is 38528040 or a 2 pack 40201190, the belt number should also be on the model number sticker and these can be ordered online or at a local vac shop
you will be able to find a replacement belt at your local vacuum repair shop, or at your local well stocked hardware stores. also some sewing shops carry vacuums and they might havethe belt that you are looking for. just open up your yellow pages phone book and look under vacuum supplies and repair,, and there you go.
It sounds like your belt is broken, OR your beater bar is rotating but has not been adjusted downward to reach the carpet pile. Check by running the vacuum and looking to see if the beater is moving.
When wheels lock when vacuum is OFF - it is normal. If it happens when Kirby is ON then there are a few things that may have gone wrong
Primary drive belt is broken or something is wrong with plastic gears. See how to check the primary drive belt HERE.
If it is fine and gears are spinning - then something must be wrong inside the transmission. Parts for tech drive are not available from manufacturer so you are on your own. It is not really complicated - 2 clutches that engage and disengage depending which direction you push the vacuum. But if something in there is broken - you have to get a new tranny. It is not like getting a transmission for a truck but it still will set you back by about 100 $.
Here is the link to the detailed instructions for belt changing. When you take the brushroll out, make sure that the brushroll spins freely. If it doesn't it will burn up your belts and needs to be replaced.

I need to know how to use the attachments that came with the Kirby. I know how to use the shampoo/vacuum, but not the other attachments or the upholstery cleaner. Does anyone have any idea?
Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. 1st, you need to un-hook the lever @ the top of the Kirby head, dial off the belt from the Kirby Vacuum Head using the Kirby emblem in the front of the vacuum, that also serves as a hook/spoon to dial the belt off the fan pulley. Once you have removed the vacuum head you now hook up the attachment hose to use the attachments by locking the attachment hose to the top lever. All regular Kirby attachment will fix on the attachment hose end including the spin brush if you have one with your Kirby --- using the Kirby Shampoo spray the soiled area and use the spin brush to agitate the carpet and or upholstery, try not to use to much water. If you have a Kirby shampooer – use the recovery tank on the exhaust port of the Kirby (this means that the cloth/paper bag needs to come off and install the clear recovery tank. Please refer to the Kirby owners manual for any type of trouble shooting that you might need – or please feel free to contact your local vacuum dealer in the yellow pages or contact your Kirby factory manufacturer listed below: http://kirby.comContact Us by Phone United States and Canada 1-800-494-8586 Between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST Monday thru Friday Thanks,Don – The Vac Man Go Ahead.Use Us.
Hi, I'm Jon IO used to sell these machines and I also own an Ultimate G, And sounds like to me it's a loose or broken transmission belt, I think you should have your local Kirby dealer take a look at it or even a good quality vacuum shop will be able to look at it.
