Yes, you can. Find your way into the setup menu to "cc" /closed caption and turn them off.

How do I 'find my way' without the remote control working? What specific button do I work with on the TV itself?

Look for the menu/set up button on the TV set next to the volume/channel buttons.

Where is the subtitle button please?

To be able to access the subtitles, there should be subtitles in the first place. And if there is a dedicated button to switch them on and of, why not try all the buttons you don't know where they are for?
There are not that many on you remote.

I can not get the subtitles off remote will not do it. Do I need to buy a new remote ? All the other buttons work

Have you read the manual for the device that is posting the subtitles?
It could be controlled by SAT or Cable boxes or you TV or even VCR if you have one connected. You should be able to control each device without using the remote but this will require you to actually walk over to the device and look at the buttons that are available to you.

Most likely you need to enter the menus of these devices and navigate to the subtitles section to turn it off directly.
Try changing your batteries in your remote also to see if it works better.

Hi Warren,
Kindly tell him to push the D.SUB button underneath the yellow button, that is if he is on DVD mode. If that one won't work, you may ask him to push the third button from the left hand side of his remote control.

Turning off subtitles will not work for some programs as other broadcasting networks placed restrictions that you cannot turn on/off subtitles using your remote control.

hope this one helps.

Is there a way to access the subtitle button on a philips dvd player using the chunghop RM-88E universal remote control? Please help :(

Aren't you trying to select closed captions (CC)? If so, turning off the TV sound will cause closed captions to appear after a brief pause. Naturally, your TV has to be capable of doing this

The subtittles on the tv I cant turn them off and its really annoying to watch the shows with all the writting in the way I tried holding the subtittle key on the remote down but it doesnt work pleaseee...

Hello
The only way to turn OFF subtitle is, press the subtitle key on the remote control itself. If it doesn't work, either your remote's subtitle key is not working properly or your remote control may not be the orginal one. To check the working of the subtitle key; you must have a cellphone with camera option. Hold the remote control in fromt of the camera lens of your cellphone, after set it to camera option, press the subtitle key, and see if an infrared image falls on the screen of the cellphone. Infrared rays, comes from the remote control cannot be detected by human eye, but electronic camera can sense it. Check this. Sometimes the switch may be faulty. If so, you have to open your remote control and clean it. Clean its inside printed circuit baord, and inner key pad buttons with a soft cloth dipped in pure alcohol or medical quality turpentine. Never use hard solvents like petrol or thinner, as they will damage both the plastic cover and inner rubber parts. If these does not help you, you have to buy an other remote of same number. OK.

Subtitles always on

Hi - welcome to FixYa,

There are 2 methods for changing the subtitle settings on your DVD player.

Method 1.
To turn off the subtitles on your DVD player during playback:

1. Press the "SUBTITLE" button on your remote control
The subtitle button is just below the "0" (zero) numerical key on the remote control. It is marked "SUBTITLE" above the button and the button has "ABC" written inside a white rectangle on it.
2. Use the left "<" and right ">" arrow keys to change the subtitle setting
Each time you press an arrow key the subtitle language will change and eventually the language will read "OFF". The subtitles are now switched off during playback.

Method 2.
To turn disc subtitles off from the main menu:

1. Press the "MENU/LIST" button on your remote control (directly below "STOP")
The main menu will now appear
2. Press the down arrow key on your remote once to highlight "A" in the left hand column of the main menu
3. Press the right arrow key on your remote once to move to the right-hand column of the menu
4. Press the down arrow twice to highlight "Disc Subtitle"
5. Use the left and right arrow keys to change the subtitle options until your required choice is displayed
6. Once set, press the "MENU/LIST" button again to exit the menu.

This should solve your problem, but if you need any further assistance, please post back.

Regards,
BElectric
