It should come out of the box with a default setup that would allow you to connect to it. Just plug it in. Adding some security would help though.

If you lost your password, there is a reset button on the back of every router to reset it to default settings.
From what I know from Nintendo DS, you can have a WEP protection password. WPA encryption will not work with a DS. Keep in mind that WEP can easily be hacked.
Good luck :)

You must have a wireless adapter installed in your new PC. Assuming there is already one, then you need to identify what type of security you use with your wireless router.
If you don;t have any security installed, then you can just search for wireless access points and then you should be able to connect to your router. The danger with not having security is others can also easily connect to your router and network and possibly hacked to your systems and also eat up on your internet bandwidth.
The easiest security is to have a password installed before you can access the router. When you search for wireless, you just choose your wireless and then you must know the password so you can access it. You can save the password so don't have to do it everytime you connect. There's still a possibility though that someone can hacked your password, but not likely in a regular environment.

Another option is to register the MAC address of all of your PC in the router so only your own PCs can connect. This is a little bit more technical though so you may want to hire a tech for this.

I just set up a netgear router and a lynksys expander. All my laptops work, but iphone & itouch will not. Seems as though the password has changed. Can this happen? How can I find the password? When I...

If you did not configure the Netgear wireless router and changed the default settings and the default password password, then your wireless system is open to anyone hacking into your system and change your wireless router's settings and they can hack into your computers and your Internet connection. The Linksys expander will increase the wireless range to give a wider coverage to your router.
I suggest you reset the Netgear back to the factory defaults (press the pinhole button on the back of the Netgear router until the LEDs flash then release this button,
The configure the Netgear as follows :-
To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

Want to make my belkin wireless router secure

Login to its web-interface.

Change the default ID ('admin') and password ('admin').

In the "wireless" settings, change the SSID,
and change it to *NOT* "broadcast" the SSID.

Enable "encryption" ('WEP' has been "hacked" -- do not use it;
'WPA-TKIP' has recently ben "hacked" -- do not use it).

Set a "password" for every wireless connection.

there should be a 'reset' button on the back of the router. press and hold for about 10 seconds. then you might have to do a firmware upgrade to it. you will definitely have to re-set up your connections. someone probably hacked your router and set up thier own connection. you want to turn off the "wireless configuration" option that allows people to set up the router wirelessly.
