Question about Onkyo TX-DS696 Receiver
The left rear surround channel of my Onkyo 696 sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. If I run the audio test, and it's not working, sometimes by increasing the volume on that channel I can get it to kick in and work, or I might get it to kick in if I turn it off and then turn it back on. I've also had this problem with the front right speaker, but not nearly as frequently as the left rear one. Someone mentioned cleaning the contacts, but I'm not sure if they meant the external speaker contacts or some internal ones. I have no problem opening the receiver up and doing some work if it would clear up the problem whatever it might be. So thanks to anyone who might have a solution to this problem... Sincerely, soinie.

If your receiver has speaker protection relays and they are intermittent due to bad contacts you might be able to repair them if they are not sealed. Most are but take a shot. They make small files for this purpose. Replacing them can be daunting because yo may not have good access. Tap the relay with the receiver playing and see if it helps.
