Question about Televison & Video
I received a sony television from a friend with the model number KDL-52s4100. it is LCD and seemed to be a great gift, the picture on the right hand side of the the television is not exactly blurred but doubled. like where it says no signal on the bottom it has a clear "no signal on top" and a blurrier one on the bottom of it. same with the channel info. it'll say "KMPH 52" and then below with the same info but a bit less clear. ive been reading around sounds like a lcd panel problem.. which seems to be expensive to fix any other ideas? im willing to take the tv apart since i didnt pay anything for it

SOURCE: CRACK LCD TV SCREEN
I don't have a listing for your model, but it is not unusual for the panel to cost more than a replacement set. As another example, the replacement tube (CRT) for a 27" Sony set can easily be $700. This was when these sets were being sold for $350!! Parts is where these companies rake in big profits. Don't blame the servicer for this one.
Sorry about the bad news.

SOURCE: Repairing Sony LCD tv
Try getting the TV menu on the screen. If you can't, it's probably the LCD panel or backlighting issues. If you look very closely sometimes you can see a dark image if it's backlighting issues.
If you can bring up the menu, but all inputs are black, then the problem is more towards the electronics. Usually computer VGA and HDMI inputs bypass a lot of electronics and may point you to a video switching issue in the TV. If this is all Greek, consider a trained service company. Choose a platinum servicer since they are Sony trained, certified and held to much higher standards than other authorized servicers. Sony expects them to make first attempt fix within 5 days of contacting Sony. Usually the right part is sent to the tech prior to them setting the repair appointment. Compare that with the others and you will see a clear difference.

SOURCE: I have a Sony LCD
You need to do some troubleshooting before buyin g any parts. Are you getting any backlights at all?
Please follow some steps below.
First, look at the screen in darkened room to see if you can see any slight glow from the screen, if it does, then the problem can be the T-CON (not getting the 12vdc) or the main logic board not feeding the signals to the T-CON board.
if not, next place to check will be the power supply module, make sure it has 24vdc which is required by the backlight inverter to work, the reason for not having 24vdc can be from bad DC filter caps (leaking/bulging top, high ESR) or short circuits in the inverter board which will cause the 24vdc supply to go into shutdown mode, so you may have to disconnect the power cable that feed the inverter board to see if the 24vdc will work without the inverter board hookup, you will need to apply about 3~4 amp of load to the 24vdc to make sure it can handle that. There are fuses on the backlight inverter boards also. So there is some troubleshooting you will have to do to find out the causes of the problem you are having.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools, electronics knowledge, and know safety precaution then please read on:

This tv problems it is alway the causes by the T-CON decodering board. That the board sit wright in the middle at the bottom of the LCD screen panel.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish T-CON decodering board for the replacement. If this tv problems are causes and came on horizontal colors lines by itself only,if the causes of this problems are causes by a person or an object by hitting the LCD screen panel itself. It is not repairable, because the LCD screen panel it self are damages and the LCD screen panel it is dead,by leaking radiations.
