My John Deere js46 died while cutting my lawn. I replaced oil, cleaned carb, cleaned spark plug. The only way it will run and stay running is to hold the auto idle lever forward.If I dont, it idles all of the way down and dies. I am cluless what to do

If you're using ethanol-blended fuel, the ethanol will eat away at the neoprene parts inside the Briggs carb.Going to need a carb rebuild.
Don't run your engine until it's fixed or you could damage it as gas will pour into the crankcase, causing the oil to thin and lose its lubricating ability.

If all of your tests are correct, the thing remaining is the ignition coil. A bit of a pain to get at and expensive too. Parts diagram here. Before you buy a new coil, see if there might be just a broken spark wire or loose connection at the spark plug contact end.

Hi, the most likely cause is the transmission over heating. Remove the battery and the cradle underneath the battery. Here you should be able to access the transmission. Clean all grass and debris from the cooling fins and check the cooling fan for damage. Hope this helps. Regards Phil.
