Maytag front load dryer thumps while turning, empty, full etc.

I have an older model Maytag front load electric cloths dryer. serial # A1761145KY it makes a thumping noise while it rotates, empty, full it dosnt matter. It almost sounds like a bearing? I just cant seem to find the actual location of the noise because I cant figure how to get to expose the inner mechanical parts. There only seems to be a small door in the back.

If your Maytag is like my Maytag, there are two screws at the two bottom corners of the front panel. Once you remove both screws the front panel will lift out, up, and off. Then you can see what is going on inside.

An unusual noise coming from a running clothes dryer can cause concern, although these noises are rarely indicative of a more serious problem. Once the source of the noise has been located, a few simple repairs or adjustments will usually solve the problem and restore peace to your laundry room.

    Gas
  1. A gas dryer may emit an occasional clicking sound. This noise is caused by the gas valve and is a normal operating sound. The clicking sound coming from the gas valve can not be eliminated and it does not indicate any mechanical problem with the dryer.
  2. Warm Up
  3. A newly installed dryer, or a dryer that has been left unused for a period of time, may exhibit a thumping noise during the first few minutes of the drying cycle. According to the Maytag company, this noise is normal and should not be a cause for concern. If the noise continues for more than a few minutes or repeats on subsequent loads, however, then steps should be taken to locate the origin of the noise.
  4. Clothing
  5. Clothing can become knotted and balled up in the clothes dryer. This can cause vibration or a load thumping noise. When this happens, open the dryer and remove the knotted clothing. Separate the articles of clothing and place them back in the dryer. The thumping noise should not continue unless the clothing has become knotted again.
  6. Vibration
  7. Place your hands on top of the dryer and push down firmly; if the dryer tilts to one side, the clothes dryer is not level. This can cause the dryer to vibrate during the cycle and if the vibration is severe enough, the surrounding walls could be damaged by the dryer. Maytag dryers have four leveling legs installed into holes on the bottom of the dryer. These legs are included with the dryer and should have been screwed into the holes during installation. A wrench can be used to adjust the legs until the dryer is stable and level.
  8. Foreign Objects
  9. Small objects such as coins, buttons, or paperclips can become lodged between the drum and the sides of the clothes dryer. These items usually end up in the dryer after being left in clothing pockets during laundering. Turn the dryer off and remove any clothes to a laundry basket. Allow the dryer to cool down so that you won't burn your hand on any metal surfaces inside the dryer which may be hot. Look inside the dryer and pay special attention to the front and rear edges of the dryer drum. Run your fingers along the grooves where the drum connects to the dryer to locate any foreign objects. These objects could be bouncing around the dryer causing noise during the cycle, and then settling into the grooves when the dryer stops making them difficult to locate. Remember to remove all items from clothing pockets before laundering in the future to avoid this problem.

Face Clothes and Towels are smelling bad after being washed and dried in my Kenmore HE3 washer and dryer. Have tried running an empty cycle with bleach only, washed small loads with hot water, pre-wash and...

Try running an empty heavy duty wash cycle with a pint of vinegar added to the water, run wash cycle for two or three minutes then turn the machine off for thirty minutes then restart and let finish the full wash cycle

Dryer will only dry clothes half way, then when i go to continue drying, dryer will not turn back on until cooled down

Hi, the motor is overheating. i recommend inspecting the motor windings for splits or separation within the strands. make sure all wire connectors to the motor are not corroded or lose. replace the motor if there are signs of windings failures or discolored copper strands.

It takes at least 2 60 minute cycles to dry clothes. Not even 2 years old yet. Not a new problem has always been this way. What is the deal.

Check the blower fan which is mounted underneath the drum on my DLE2514W front loading LG dryer. I experienced poor drying along with a loud thump at the start of each cycle. At first I thought it was a bad roller but later found that the blower fan had separated from its bracket so it was not turning with each turn of the moter but rather spinning freely.

Electric dryer makes a rumbling when tumbler is turning.

Check the drum bearing, a load noise, and often spinning problems are symptoms of a bad drum bearing. The bearing is at the base of the drum and accessing it is not easy.

You can find diagrams and replacement parts entering model number here.

Thumping in kenmore dryer empty or full

Usually this is a symptom of the drum roller supports going bad. Some model dryers have two rollers, while others have four. I need to be sure. Please post back with your COMPLETE model number (located around the door opening) and I can give you better advice and provide you with part numbers.

PS If it IS the rollers, this is not an expensive repair.
