Question about Dell Latitude D531 Laptop Computer PC Notebook
I have a Gateway NV52L15u that came with Windows 8 pre-installed. It is in UEFI mode so i can't boot in Legacy mode and my USB wont boot in UEFI mode. The BIOS only lets me change between legacy mode and UEFI mode, but it wont let me change the "secure boot" option, though it is there, but its gray. What do?
Restart the computer HOLD the keys CTRL+F11 OR F12 depend of your model, and restore to the factory defaulty, and try it again.
God bless you

SOURCE: Dell Vostro will not boot up
During startup, just before the Windows splash screen appears, you should be able to hit the F8 key for a list of startup options. It looks from your post as if you know how to do this.
One of those choices should be to disable automatic restart on system failure. (or words very similar to that.) Use this choice to get into safe mode if you can, or into regualar windows.
Once there, go to the system restore feature and restore to a date when everything worked.
This error message is a message pointing to a piece of software (as opposed to hardware, as so many of these messages are).
The next best fix is to reinstall the OS from the ground up. this may be a major hassle, depending on the data you have on that hard drive.

This is how I did it, you may or may not have the ability. A basic knowledge of Dos is necessary 1) I used another laptop but you could use an adapter to use the hard drive in a regular computer. 2)boot with a windows 98 boot disk, fdisk it to a fat32 partition, make the hard drive a system boot disk (format /s c:) 3) copy the i386 folder and all its contents from a full or full oem (not branded) disk to the laptop drive, also copy smartdrv and highmem.sys from the floppy (speeds thing up dramatically) and create a config.sys file with device=highmem.sys 4)physically install the hard drive back into the C400, boot to dos run smartdrv.exe, then go to the i386 folder and type winnt.exe (enter) wooo should work. This means that your HDD is corrupted. This could have happened if your computer was dropped and sometimes it happens even when nothing has happened to it. If you take your computer to a repairman, he will be able to fix the HDD for you. Do not attempt to open the HDD yourself as the smallest piece of dust will ruin the HDD. The repairman will open it in a 100% dust proof room.
What might have happened is that the arm in your HDD has fallen on to the magnetic part of the HDD itself. Most of the data should be able to be recovered. If your laptop is only 8 months old, it should still be under warranty so i recommend that you take it to your suppler and they should fix it for free.
Thank you for using FixYa! Have a nice day and please remember to rate this solution.
