Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Dell inspiron 546. So we had a power issue. After bring advised we replaced the PSU. This seemed to be the right issue because now the unit powers on, all fans spin. Here's the thing. It is having issues now booting all the way. We get one beep. Fans keep spinning. Monitor goes into power save and then it does random things at this point. Sometimes it brings up Amerucan Megatebds with a keyboard failure error mssg. Other times in will show the Microsoft loading bar then fail to boot windows and go into the system repair thing. But it never fixed it. I managed three times to get into the boot menu/bios settings and it looked right. A couple if times after the sys restore thing failed it brought up a blue screen that stated in for like five seconds than disappeared so I can't read all of it. Says domethingbaboutvsystem failing to boot I think. I'm at a loss now. Is there somewhere I can see how the power supply is supposd to be connected to the components, does the order matter? I'm thinking there may be an is due with the new supply as it appears the DVD/rom is not powering right as when the power is turned on the drive won't open when proper button is depressed. Does it not booting prevent it from opening on this model? The HD seems to be "clicking" fir lack if better term like its processing. I would appreciate help. In a disabled vet from our most recent engagements overseas and now have been struck with a terminal diagnosis. With medical costs things are just so tight don't have the extra cash for a computer tech or new one right now. It was a great computer for wife and kids to use so I really just want to fix it - eesorcialky to get the data and pictures from it. Thanks for your time

Restart the computer HOLD the keys CTRL+f11 or f12 depen or your model, etc and restore to the factory default, and try again.
However the connectors for power have a LOT of implications. You must have sure that connector are right. Otherwise you can damage the computer.
You can RUN the software diagnostic coming with your computer or download from the manufacter supply for free and make and diagnostic.
God bless you

SOURCE: Desktop will not boot into bios No Usb power;monitor ''No Signal''

Your problem is the memory . YOu have to put off the pc and remove the memory card in the slot. Then clean the silver pins in your memory with a rubber eraser. Put it back and see if the BIOS will be prompted on the screen , if not you have to replace the memory.

Have dell Inspiron 546 minitower. Been acting up lately where it won't power up. The LED light on PSU below voltage switch is green. Light on MB is orange. No power or indication at all on front...

PSU's put out several different voltages if the 12Vs isn't working it won't power the motherboard. Some outputs may still be functioning therefore you may see some lights on and even some fans running. Replace the PSU.

Dell Inspiron desktop, will not power up.

hi!,
ok, is there any voltage appear in one of the terminal of psu or power supply is the fan of psu is running,if you suspected your psu is running or not try to unplug and disconnect your psu from the mother board, then bigger socket that contain 24 pin with different color of your psu try to connect the two pin that has a color blue and green by a small wire about 2 inches slotted at both end.then put power if the fan is run its good may be your memory or video card or processor is defected if your psu does not run replace.

it is either a memory or graphics card problem. you can clean the pins on the memory cards and the graphics card with a pink erasure and reinsert them and see if it gets rid of the problem.

I turned my 546 off from the 'Safe' mode and now it will not power-up. No yellow or blinking lights.

if no power indication at all, the I'd ensure the power supply connection is good, bypass any power strips and see if the system powers on, if no power with a known good outlet, then like the power supply for the system has failed (Generally an AXT power supply about $30)

How to access bios on Dell Inspiron 546

As soon as you turn your computer on, and see the Dell logo, start tapping the F2 key.
If you miss this window of opportunity, wait until Windows has fully loaded, then restart your computer. Try again.

(The Dell logo comes up pretty fast. If you miss entering BIOS Setup, {System Setup is Dell's term}, then as soon as you press the Power On button, start tapping on the F2 key. Tap in 2 second intervals)
