SOURCE: tohatsu outboard 15hp 2 stroke was running great,

First: with flashlight or mirror look down the carb- with switch off- and gear and throttle wide open and see what the butterfly valve inside there is doing. It should be parallel to the air flow.

If not you need to find the actuator am and be sure it moves with the control and opens all the way.

Next make sure the timing plate under the flywheel moves at the same time the throttle is opened. Then -using timing light- see if the timing is set to the correct "wide Open throttle" - this is a 2 man job done at sunset with good marks on the flywheel (don't wear a tie). This can also be done static by running it out of gas and using the pull cord- if it has no safety interlock.

Last- and the saddest part- is the compression test. The strength of the reading is not as important as the similarity. When I worked on Chryslers, they were bad if the two readings were as little as 8# apart. The minimum reading should be over 80#.

SOURCE: gp 800 will crank but wont start

Hi, most likely the trigger coils near the flywheel, it will still have spark but the timing may be off. Try new plugs first as they may have spark outside the cylinders but not when under compression. Regards Phil

How do I change glow plugs on my volvo s 60 2007

They are easy to replace once you get to them...Its kind of like changing spark plugs..First make sure engine is cold get safety glasses..,Disconnect battery ground cables..Carefully disconnect wire then plug..Do this one at a time....,Don't get confused...,Don't over tighten..Also it may be a good idea to put a very small dab of anti-seize on new plug threads...Once completed make sure all plug wires are secure with a good snug connection...Connect Battery ..,Turn ignition on but DO NOT CRANK UNTIL GLOW PLUG DASH LIGHT GOES OFF....Then start engine and perform a safety check...

Engine turns over, won't start, no fire at plugs. There's plenty of fuel, and no fire from any of the plugs. All fuses and fusible links are good. I pulled the plugs to check for a spark, and there's no...

What are you wondering is correct. Let check the coil first. if coil is good the there is a problem with the ignition module. If the ignition module is good then a problem with the crankshaft sensor. The coil can be checked by measure resistance of the terminals of the primary coil and secondary coil separately to see if it open. To check if it can generate a spark, once you identify the primary coil terminal, run 12 V wire to these terminal, connect a spark plug to the secondary coil, by just leaving a spark plug with connected with spark plug wire and let it touch the engine chassis. Now you have to make pulses at the 12 volts connection by making a break and connection several time to turn it on and off to generate the spark at spark plug. The ignition module is supposed to do what you are doing now to generate the spark. If it is bad, it can't do what you did then a spark is not generated. For the crankshaft sensor, only the shop can tell you it is bad or not. Good luck.

Need to start a car 1965 mustang that has not been started in 5 years what should i do first. iI have no idea whats wrong with it.

change old oil and filter make sure all spark plug wires are there and look ok take spark plug out and pour little amounts of marvel mystery oil down into cyl. then turn engine over acouple times if it has a oil pressure guage make sure with spark plugs out and engine turning that you have some oil pressure.then take some fuel line and connect it to the fuel pump on the side of the engine you most take off line going to the fuel tank in order to do this then put all but one spark plug back in the put all the wires on then the one plug that you left out check for spark by installing the wire on the plug and setting the plug on something metal on the car (grounded) the turn the engine over and look if the plug is making a spark if so put it all back together. then with that line you put on the fuel pump stick it into a gas can with plenty of fuel then pour a tiny amont into the carb and try to start

2001 Ford Focus stopped running while i was driving and wont start. Makes a churning sound but no power is going to engine. I changed the ignition coil, still wont turn on. Any suggestions?

Can you explain more so I can help. What do you mean still wont turn on, engines doesn't start or starter motor doesn't turn. Have u taken out a spark plug and connected it to the cable put the end of the spark plug to a ground and make someone turn on the engine for a few seconds you should see some blue sparks. Carefully use gloves. If no sparks, spark plug is bad next thing to check instead of putting the spark plug in the cable put Philips screwdirver put the screwdriver near a ground not touching about one inch make someone turn the engine for a couple of second you should see the spark jumping from the screwdriver to the ground, If there are no sparks ignition coil or spark plug cables are not good. But u say u changed ignition coil so maybe your cables are not good. There is a connector near the ignition coil disconnect it and turn ignition switch on measure the voltage you should have in between 12vdc + or - .5 vdc if no voltage present there is a blown fuse, Check for it

Wont start getting weak orange spark

Hi, Kinwin and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a "LOAD" test, your battery may show 12.5 volts but has little or zero amps and must be replaced.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting, leaking, spark plug cable connections loose check for spark leakage in the dark.
6. Faulty ignition coil or CDI or electronic control module.
7. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
8. Faulty ignition switch.
9. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
10. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

2004 Kia Sedona wont start but i can hear starter.

if the starter is revving very slowly it is the battery, charge battery. if not, It can be three things happing. 1 no spark 2 no fuel 3 no crank signal or the car computer is bad- you will need to unplug one of the spark wires and remove the spark plug and put the spark plug in the spark plug wire boot, and touch the spark plug on any metal on the car and have some start the car. donot touch the spark plug itself and see if there is a spark. if spark is bright, then it is not spark plug and wires but if no or spark is not bright, check the spark plug wires by applying a little bit of water on the spark plug wire and take a 12v test light, connect the clap to ground and and have some one to crank the vehicle, touch allover the spark plug wires with the tip of the test light, if you see spark, replace the wires and change the plugs.. they are not good. if spark is present, check for fuel by removing any one of the spark plugs and see if it is wet. if wet fuel pump is ok but if not go look for the fuel pump fuse and relay. is fuse blown, replace, check the relay resistor with a volt meter. it should be around 40 to 80 ohm. if everything is good from this point check the fuel pump itself by disconnecting the connector to the pump and apply 12v and ground using jumper wires or some wires to the fuel pump if you donot hear the pump, replace pump. if you, the crank signal or computer may be the problem
