Pen drive not showing in window explorer

I'm using Windows XP SP-2 and I've run into a problem. When I first inserted my FLASH DRIVE into the USB port of my computer, It shows, the safely remove hardware icon came up in the taskbar tray menu, but the drive was not displaying in windows explorer. So I went into Device manager and come under universal serial bus controller where I find my device,in USB mass storage properties I find driver, update details and made all effort but could not start it to window explorer. I tried the same usb with webcam its working properly. My flash drive is UMAX Apus210 and purchased just 2days back. Its working on all other computer. Its not open under auto run when I insert in usb port.I tried another pen drive too but it also not showup. Can any one please suggest what to do?

Hello Sir. Do you have mapped network drives on your computer? If you have this may cause your problem. When you insert the FLASH DRIVE into USB and the "safely remove hardware" icon appers try to right-click on it and choose "eject" or "remove" (don't remember :), then pull the FLASH DRIVE from the USB and connect it again. Go to Windows Explorer and try to open all your mapped drives, then the content of your FLASH DRIVE must be loaded into your Windows Explorer. This is happened sometimes, because FLASH DRIVE try to assign the first free drive letter after your phisical drive letters, and if you have a mapped drive letter, the FLASH DRIVE assign one of them. I hope this will help you :)

Just had this problem - probably because I also have network drives mapped. I just solved it by going to Control Panel (in classic view)>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management, then right clicked the pen drive and selected "Change drive letters and paths". I then changed the drive letter to one that isn't already in use - I also used a higher letter so that if I map any more network drives they are less likely to conflict.

How to Install Windows 7 from USB Flash Drive

what if you don’t have DVD-ROM and you are running Windows XP, you might have guessed in this case we can’t install windows 7. Since Windows 7 ISO size is around 2.24 GB so its obvious that you will need to burn windows 7 iso on DVD and another issue is you can’t start windows 7 installation by mounting ISO file on windows XP as Windows XP upgrade to windows 7 is not allowed. In such situation installing windows 7 from USB pen drive is feasible solution.
Here is small guide on how to install windows 7 from USB flash drive or USB pen Drive for Windows XP users.
How to Install Windows 7 from USB Flash Drive Requirement:
USB Pen Drive (Min 4 GB)
Windows 7 ISO (32 bit or 64 bit)

MBRwiz Download and Extract it on your hard drive (Diskpart utility for Windows XP doesn’t detect USB drive as Disk hence we need to use this free utility to make bootable USB drive).
1. Connect your USB Flash Drive to your computer Format USB drive
2. To Format USB Flash Drive Go to My Computer -> Right click on USB drive and select Format from context menu.
3. Now go to Start Menu->run->cmd (Open Command Prompt) and Type following command
convert i: /fs:ntfs (Where “I” is your USB drive latter)

4. Mount Windows 7 iso as drive (You can use Freeware MagicDisc download from here).
5. Type Start->run->cmd
Now dir to directory where you have extracted MBRWiz and run following commands

mbrwiz /list (note down disk number of your USB Pen drive)
mbrwiz /disk=X /active=X (X is Disk Number of your USB Drive)
exit
6. Now open another command window and type following command
J: (Drive letter of Windows 7 iso mounted with demon tool)
CD boot
bootsect /nt60 Y: (Y is drive latter of your USB drive )

7. Now copy all files from drive where you have mount Windows 7 iso
8. Now reboot your computer and press F9 to get your BIOS screen and select USB drive as your boot drive.
9. If every thing goes fine, Your Windows 7 Installation should start from your USB drive.

How do you use a flash drive on the computar

Hello

Install the USB Flash Drive:
Plug the USB flash drive into a free USB port on your laptop (it is an approximately 1/2" slot, either on the side or back of the laptop).
Windows XP operating system should recognize it. It may ask you what you want to do with it. Select "Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer" and click OK.
Operating system should assign it a drive letter (see the title of the Windows Explorer window that opens).

Use the USB Flash Drive:
In Windows Explorer, click Folders button on the menu bar to show the installed drives on the left pane of the screen.
To copy a file from c:\ (hard drive) to flash drive:
Find the file you wish to copy on the c:\ drive.
Right-click it and select Copy.
Right-click the location on the new drive where you wish to paste the file, and select Paste.
(File should now appear in desired location.)

Hope you find this useful, if you have any more questions, just leave a comment and i will get back to you as soon as possible.

Kind regards
Andrea

This can occur if the pen drive was inserted into a HUB rather than direct into a proper usb 2.0 port on the compuer.

It can also happen if the dmive has been mistreated in any way.

You may want to try re-format it from the computer mangement console
rather than my computer or windows explorer

Its a common problem with the pendrive, in windows. some time it doesnot detect or not showing clearly that device. you have to check your pendrive manufacturer and driver details. and also check it out driver signing.

You must install a "Driver" for it to work under Win98, go to the manufacturers web site and download the driver and install.
